Autism is a spectrum that includes a wide range of experiences, strengths, and support needs.

In MN, recent data from the University of Minnesota shows that 1 in 28 eight-year-old children are identified with autism, a rate that is increasing as awareness and screening improve.

At Northland Counseling Center, we celebrate neurodiversity in all its forms and reaffirm our commitment to compassionate, strength-based mental health care for all.

We are proud to provide support to individuals and families the best we can, recognizing that every person has unique needs and strengths.

April is National Stress Awareness Month

Stress is a natural part of life, but when it builds without release, it can affect our mental and physical health. One of the most effective ways to manage stress is completing the stress cycle. This means allowing your body and mind to fully process and release tension.

How to complete the stress cycle:
🏃 Move your body – exercise, dance, or even a brisk walk helps release built-up energy.
💬 Talk it out – sharing your feelings with a trusted friend, counselor, or peer can help process emotions.
🎨 Engage your senses – creative activities, music, or deep breathing can signal to your brain that the stress episode is ending.
🧘 Rest and reset – taking time to relax, meditate, or enjoy quiet reflection closes the loop of stress. Don't forget about our weekly, free meditation offering - Tranquil Tuesday 😉

Completing the stress cycle helps prevent stress from lingering and impacting your health. Small, intentional steps each day can make a big difference.

International Women's Day is a day dedicated to recognizing the contributions of girls and women. Congratulations to all that women have shared in improvement socially, economically, socially, politically, scientifically, and so on. Women have contributed significantly to the world of mental health including Virginia Satir, Melanie Klein, Marsha Linehan, Francine Shapiro, and so many others. Let's keep marching forward 💚

This Women’s History Month, we honor the resilience, leadership, and care that women provided (and continue to provide) to their families, workplaces, and communities throughout history.

Many women feel the pressure to hold it all together, often at the expense of their own mental health. Carrying so much responsibility can quietly lead to stress, anxiety, burnout, and feeling unseen. Struggling doesn’t mean you’re failing; it just means you’re human.

At Northland Counseling Center, we offer a space for women to set down their mental load and be supported without having to be strong for everyone else. You deserve care too. If you would like support with your mental health, reach out to us at the link in our bio.

Women, tell us below – what is one thing you are going to do for yourself this month? You deserve it!

Eating disorders affect people of all ages, genders, body sizes, cultures, and backgrounds and are serious mental health conditions, not a choice or a phase.

Eating disorders often go unseen, especially when it doesn’t fit common stereotypes. This means that many people are under-diagnosed and undertreated.

For example: people of color and higher-weight individuals are less likely to receive an eating disorder diagnosis or treatment, despite evidence that disordered eating exists across body types.

This stigma and misconception aren’t just harmful but create real barriers to care. People may avoid getting help, and providers may overlook symptoms too.
Awareness helps reduce stigma. Compassion helps people seek care. And recovery is possible with the right support.

If you or someone you care about is struggling, help is available and you are not alone. Reach out to us for support at the link in our bio.💛
