📢 City of Inwood Reminders: Burning & Dumping Ordinances

As we move into spring, the City of Inwood would like to remind residents of important rules regarding open burning and waste disposal to help keep our community safe and clean.

🔥 Open Burning

Open burning is generally prohibited within city limits, with a few exceptions:

☑️ Recreational fires (must be in a proper fire ring/container, max 3 ft wide × 2 ft high)
☑️ Clean-burning fuels only (dry wood, charcoal, propane, natural gas)
☑️ Burns approved by permit through the Fire Chief
☑️ City-managed or training-related burns

Key rules:

☑️ Fires must be attended at all times
☑️ No burning within 10 feet of structures
☑️ No burning when winds exceed 20 mph
☑️ Burning may be restricted during dry conditions

🚫 Dumping & Waste Disposal

☑️ Illegal dumping is prohibited — waste must go to an approved disposal site
☑️ No dumping of garbage, debris, or litter on land, roads, or waterways
☑️ Yard waste must be taken to the city yard waste site (no burning or landfill disposal)

City ordinance defines open dumping as placing waste on the ground or in water and clearly prohibits it outside approved sites

Faces of Inwood: meet Cody and Kaylee!

Cody has lived in Inwood his entire life, and Kaylee moved to Inwood in 2022 when we got married. We are grateful to live on our family farm and be part of such a wonderful small-town community. From the cute local shops to the Inwood Tractor Pull and 4th of July celebrations each summer, there’s always something special happening here. We feel so blessed to call Inwood home and can’t wait to raise our babies in this amazing community.

Let’s celebrate the amazing people who make our city so special!

💧 Did you know?

One sump pump can send up to 18,000 gallons of water per day into our sewer system.

That’s a big strain on Inwood’s treatment system—and it can lead to backups and higher costs for everyone.

🚫 Sump pumps should NOT be connected to the sanitary sewer.
✅ Make sure yours is draining properly outside your home.

Every pump matters. Let’s work together to protect our system!

☀️ Warm Weather Reminder – Golf Carts & Bicycles

With warmer weather here, we’re seeing more golf carts and bicycles around town. Just a couple friendly reminders:

Golf Carts

✅ Must display a slow-moving vehicle (orange triangle) and safety flag
✅ Drivers must be of legal age and follow traffic laws (no driving on side walks)
✅ All passengers should be properly seated—no riding on laps—and operators must ensure safe operation at all times
✅ Use caution and be mindful of pedestrians and other vehicles

Bicycles

✅ No riding on sidewalks in business districts
✅ Yield to pedestrians and give an audible signal when passing
✅ Ride at a safe and reasonable speed
✅ Ride on bicycle paths when available or ride as near to the right-hand side of the road as possible

Let’s all do our part to keep Inwood safe and enjoyable this season!
