Salon 6 Yoga Q&A
"When do you have classes?"
Every day except Friday and Sunday. Two classes on Saturday!
"I would love to try it, but I'm not that flexible."
That's why you do it! Flexibility naturally increases as you learn the practice.
"I've always wanted to try it. Do you offer beginner classes?"
Every class is a beginner class. You start at your comfort level, and as your capabilities increase, you advance to the next pose.
"What classes do you offer?"
Several types:
YIN Yoga- just effective stretching on your mat.
SLOW FLOW- stretch, strength, and balance building
VINYASA/ASANA Yoga- all of the above at a slightly faster pace for more of a workout.
"Why Hot Yoga?... I don't like heat."
The studio is "heated" with infrared heaters for more of a healthy, radiant, moist heat... unlike the heat of a hot day. Think of red light therapy! The warmth encourages your muscles and ligaments to stretch within the practice, and what you couldn't do at the start of class- such as bending at the hips to touch your toes, becomes doable by the end of class.
*One side of the studio is hotter than the other for easing into it.
*Not all classes are "hot". (See class schedule.)
"How many instructors do you have?
3! Tara, Kassidy, and April. Each instructor brings their own style and personality to the class. They are knowledgeable, informative, instructive, and helpful.
"I'm afraid I'll look silly!"
No one is watching you. Lol
During all poses/stretches, you are facing same direction as everyone else. There is a mirror at front of the class as a tool for focusing on yourself, so the only person looking at you is you! And the instructors... for proper positioning and guidance as needed.
"I don't have time with my busy work schedule, kids, crazy life."
It's an hour to give to yourself for doing your crazy life. Practicing yoga supports your mental and physical health, and all that hustle becomes easier to balance when you give yourself that hour of space and grace. Your anxieties lesson, your patience becomes pure, your breath becomes beneficial, your body allows for more movement, and your mind begins to better focus... leaving you with more energy and time!
"How do I sign up/learn more?"
Salon6yoga.com or 616.522.9870
Try your first 3 classes FREE!! Or, just show up at the studio for a scheduled class and the instructor to help you with the app prior to attending your first class.
"What should I wear, what do I bring?"
Yoga pants, leggings, shorts, tank or t-shirt.. whatever you are comfortable in!
There are mats for use if you don't have one yet, and also for purchase. The studio carries Manduka mats and yogawear; leggings, shirts, sports tops, and mat towels. We provide blocks and bolsters in class when needed. Bring a water bottle!
Other info: You can request/purchase a private class/consultation with an instructor to get you started, get help with common poses and proper placement, or discuss limitations due to injury or surgery and learn alternatives to positions for specific needs to your body.
Final thoughts: The studio is a happy and peaceful place for ALL! From young athletes to grandparents, local residents, and out of town visitors...we love witnessing new friendships being made, couples/friends/family members strengthening bonds, and building a community of purpose and personal achievement. It's truly awesome!
