I am thinking of doing a summer camp type of activity this summer at my house. I will probably offer it twice in June and once in July.
Tentative Dates:
5th grade and up - June 19-21 and july 24-26 (9 am-3 pm)
2nd-4th - June 26-28 (9 am-3 pm)
It would be Monday through Wednesday. Kids would be $30 per day and I would do it by age. 2nd-4th grade and 5th grade and up. (unless parents specifically wanted their kids on the same day). Kids would bring their own lunch and I would have snacks. I have offered this in the past with painting only, but I was thinking of adding more activities.
I am thinking parents could drop off at 9 am and I would keep them until 3. (I would make special arrangements for parents who work late)
Team Activities I am considering:
Building a boat (from provided materials) an each team will compete to see who's boat floats the longest in my pond.
Building a tower with straws and tape. Structure that stand the longest will win
Human Knot activity
Pass Hula Hoop
Team Picnic (on the first day, we will discuss healthy choices and building a healthy lunch.) On the last day, the kids will bring in different items and we will do a buffet. Each child will have to build a "healthy meal" with the proper portions.
Board Games that assist with math thinking skills:
Scrabble (spelling, math, critical thinking--if they can make one word hook onto others)
Jenga (thinking)
Mancala (thinking)
Monopoly (money)
Solitaire
Minute to win it games (like what we play at pep rallies)
Art/Craft day
Painting a canvas
Making an initial pillow from their fabric of choice (they will bring their own fabric on this day.) I will have needle, thread, and stuffing. This will be done with a hand stitch....emojoi pillows are really popular right now with boys and girls.
For the younger group (and maybe the older ones too, we might make bracelets or keychains instead of pillow, but if it is a mature group, we will do the sewing.
Again, these are just ideas. Please look over them and let me know what you think. There are SOOOOOO many things we did to pass the time when we were kids and this generation knows nothing about it!!! Do you know any parents who might be interested in sending their kids?
