In September of 1873, four Sisters of Mercy traveled by train from Davenport, Iowa to establish a local community hospital in Iowa City - what we know today as Mercy Iowa City. The first patient was then treated three weeks later on September 27, 1873. Thank you to past and present care teams of providers, nurses, hospital and clinic staff for the quality, compassionate care that has been provided for patients and our community for 150 years, with the mission and service values that the Sisters of Mercy began a century and a half ago.
