March 3rd is World Hearing Day!

Our Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic provides diagnostic and treatment services for individuals of all ages with hearing concerns. We offer comprehensive hearing evaluations, complete amplification services (including selection, fitting and follow-up care), aural rehabilitation, as well as hearing conservation counseling and fitting of hearing protection devices.

February 25th is International Cochlear Implant Day! Our services offered at the UISHC include follow-up care after you receive your cochlear implant system (CIs).

Student clinicians from the neuro team, alongside Clinical Assistant Professor Laura Schmitt, met with individuals receiving care at On With Life, a neurorehabilitation facility, to gain a deeper understanding of physical therapy’s role in the rehabilitation process. They also connected with the facility’s speech-language pathologists to learn how interprofessional collaboration supports patient outcomes across the continuum of care.

At our in-house clinic, neuro services include evaluation and treatment for dysarthria, apraxia, aphasia, cognitive-communication disorders, concussions and traumatic brain injury (TBI), and progressive neurological conditions. We also offer support groups for individuals and families navigating related diagnoses.

SPEAK OUT!® Individual Therapy and online weekly SPEAK OUT!® Therapy Groups are available at our clinic to help individuals with Parkinson’s disease regain and maintain effective communication. In this program, clients work through a series of speech, voice, and cognitive exercises with the goal of speaking with INTENT. It was developed by the Parkinson Voice Project® whose vision is to make this speech therapy program accessible to patients and families worldwide.

We are pleased to share an improvement to parking options for your upcoming visits to our clinic!

The Family Care Clinic Lot (FCC Lot), which does not require the use of stairs or elevator, may be used. This parking lot is located directly off of Melrose Avenue. As always, Parking Ramp 4 and Lot 14 are also available for use. Parking vouchers for each of these parking options will be provided complimentary as part of your appointment.

Additionally, a new parking lot on the east side of the clinic will soon become available and will include designated handicap-accessible spaces. Please stay tuned for further updates as this parking option becomes available.

The University of Iowa Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic will be closed December 24th through January 2nd in observance of the University's holiday closures. Our clinic staff will be available to return calls and messages as soon as we reopen on January 5th. We look forward to seeing you back in the clinic in the new year!
