Faculty from UISHC and Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Iowa continued their collaboration with IKL, Kosovo following the visit in May 2025, where they collaborated with other professionals to provide speech and language services and free hearing screenings to the community. Professors Stephanie Fleckenstein, Beth Walker, Philip Combiths, and Anu Subramanian presented information to SLP students and clinicians in Kosovo. We look forward to continued sharing of learning experiences!

Meet Grayson! Thanks to the support from the Student Academy of Audiology’s Hearing Aid Fund, kids like Grayson can experience the joy of hearing the little things that matter most.

This upcoming Sunday, the Student Academy of Audiology is hosting their Hustle for Hearing 5k! The money raised through this event goes directly to the clinic’s hearing aid fund, which provides funding for hearing aids, hearing devices, and ear molds for those who could not otherwise afford them.

A few weeks ago, our Audiology clinical faculty were trained on the Natus Otoscan. The Otoscan is a 3D digital ear scanning system with laser-based technology that helps create a digital model of the ear. This technology will be used to create custom hearing aids and earmolds for our patients and allows for a precise and comfortable experience.

We are excited to have this technology in our clinic and can’t wait to continue to utilize it with our patients!

Earlier this month, Clinical Professor Krista Davidson and graduate student Morgan Linneweh showcased RescueVoice, Davidson’s innovative speech-generating app designed for emergency situations, on Iowa News Now. RescueVoice aims to bridge the communication gap between first responders/medical professionals and individuals who have limited speech or are unable to speak due to a medical event. Student Clinician Spotlight: Meet Maddie Williams-Kane!

Maddie Williams-Kane, a second-year Audiology student, is a graduate student clinician at the University of Iowa Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic where she provides compassionate care to patients.

Her journey to communication sciences and disorders began when she was diagnosed with hearing loss at age 6, leading her to major in Deaf Education at Illinois State University. After working as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing and completing a master’s degree in special education, she is now pursuing her dream of becoming an audiologist at the University of Iowa.

On August 29th, students and faculty from the SLP master’s program came together at Camp Wapsie for a day of team building, adventure, and connection. The day featured zip lining, arts and crafts, a family-style meal, and the much-anticipated annual cohort volleyball match. Thank you to YMCA Camp Wapsie for having us!
