From patient to volunteer, Phil Lewis’s journey at University of Iowa Health Care is one of gratitude and giving back.

Inspired by his 2020 heart transplant, Phil has dedicated over 1,000 hours to Volunteer Services, delivering flowers and mail to patients, assisting with a variety of tasks and projects in the Volunteer Services office, and brightening days along the way.

What does he enjoy most about volunteering?

Jeffery’s family almost lost him in 2013 after a medical emergency while he was on vacation in California. He eventually recovered but the damage to his kidneys was severe.

Now, through robotic surgery and a kidney donation from his wife, he's back to doing what he loves: spending time with his family.
