When Bethany joined our team, her visual impairment wasn’t seen as a limitation. Her colleagues met her with patience and encouragement, and offered just the right amount of support.

Three years later, Bethany shows the same kind of empathy as a clerk in the Day of Surgery Lounge at our university campus. ”It costs nothing to be kind, but it can make all the difference,” she says.

University of Iowa Health Care Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center Center has begun treating its first patient with T-cell receptor therapy — an innovative treatment that uses the body’s own immune system to fight synovial sarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer.

This FDA-approved therapy, afami-cel (Tecelra), reprograms a patient’s T-cells to recognize and attack cancer cells — offering new hope for patients and families.

“For the first time, we can talk about the possibility of long-term survival,” says Gustavo Godoy-Almeida, MD, PhD.

Atrial fibrillation (Afib) is a fast, irregular, and often unsteady heartbeat. Because it can increase the risk of serious complications — including heart failure, blood clots, and stroke — and can be challenging to recognize, it’s important to see a cardiologist who can help diagnose and manage the condition.

Learn more about Afib and talk with an expert through the link in the comments.

DAISY Award recipient, Samantha Rosonke, DNP, ARNP, is a steady, empathetic presence at the bedside.

When choosing a different assignment may have been easier, Samantha chose to stay with a family who needed her. She walked alongside them as they shifted from treatment to comfort, ensuring their loved one’s final moments were peaceful and dignified — the same kind of compassionate care she once saw when her grandmother was in treatment. Her care left such an impact that the family nominated her for a DAISY Award. 💛 Read her story at the link in the comments.
