University of Iowa DeGowin Blood Center We are a hospital-based blood center that collects whole blood & platelets for UI Health Care & Stead Family Children's Hospital patients.

Each week more than 400 blood products are transfused at the hospital. Cancer patients, surgical patients, premature infants, people being treated for accident and trauma, recipients of marrow and organ transplants and patients with diseases such as sickle cell anemia and hemophilia all depend on donated blood as part of their care. Your blood donation will take about 45 minutes. You can make an a

ppointment, stop by for a donation (walk-ins are accepted) or donate at one of the DeGowin Blood Center drives in the community. Call (319) 356-2058 to set up an appointment at DeGowin Blood Center. Help us to congratulate our latest gallon grad, Leighana! Leighana is graduating from Liberty High School in May and plans to attend the University of Iowa to study journalism and sports media. Leighana loves donating because she knows she's helping people, and she also enjoys spending time with staff. If she could tell other students one thing to entice them to donate, she would take the time to let them know the impact donating can have on others' lives. Thank you for saving lives, Leighana!

Congratulations to our newest College Gallon Grad, Ella! Ella is a biomedical engineering major graduating in May! Ella plans to move to Minneapolis after graduation to work on cardia pulse generator batteries for Boston Scientific. When asked about why she started donating, Ella credits her mom for setting the example early (thanks, Ella's mom!). She was concerned about passing out during her first donation, but now doesn't even think about it. Help us to congratulation Ella on her achievement!
