The University of Iowa's Global Health Studies Program offers an interdisciplinary approach to the complex processes influencing health and disease around the world. It considers not only the manifestations of significant diseases and public health and health care systems, but also the underlying forces and institutions—such as technology, politics, culture, legal structure, gender and sexuality, history, and economics — that collectively influence patterns of health and disease. The Global Health Club was established in 2007 to create a network of students, faculty, staff and community members who join together and focus on issues pertaining to global health. The Global Health Club strives to develop pathways for students to contribute to the larger academic and professional experience in globally related health issues; involve the UI campus and alumni in activities which promote awareness, understanding and active participation in global health; and promote scholarship, advocacy, activism, and discussion of health-related issues.
