💟Today is National Purple Heart Day💟
This day honors those U.S. Service members who have been wounded or killed while serving under enemy action. ➡️It started back in 1782 when General George Washington established the Badge of Military Merit which was the forerunner to the modern Purple Heart. Though it was awarded sparingly during the Revolutionary War, it symbolized Washington's intent to recognize valor and devotion among enlisted soldiers.
With over 1.8 million awarded medals since World War 1, the Purple Heart carries deep symbolism and solemn respect. Please help us honor the purple heart recipients today, and every day, for their sacrifice.💜💜💜💜

Lung cancer is treatable—especially when it’s caught early. This World Lung Cancer Day, VA encourages eligible Veterans to get screened. VA offers free annual lung cancer screening with low-dose CT scan. You may be eligible for screening if you are 50-80 years old, currently smoke or quit within the last 15 years, or have a smoking history of at least 20 pack-years (1 pack per day for 20 years or 2 packs per day for 10 years, etc.). Talk to your VA provider about getting screened. If you smoke, ask about support to help you quit.

Over the weekend we had the honor of celebrating Navy Veteran Mel Mikkelson's 100th birthday. Mr. Mikkelson served as a Boatswain's Mate from 1944 to 1946. Please help us wish this purple heart recipient a very happy 100th birthday 💓🎂
