The Waning Light: Practices to Help Reduce Anxiety & Prepare You for Autumn/Winter

As the long days of summer disappear, we find ourselves on the cusp of Autumn, a season of cool nights, falling leaves, pumpkin spice lattes, and unfortunately for many, a spike in anxiety and restlessness. Betsy knows this challenging transition well, and in this month’s Wisdom Wednesday will share tools from psychology and yoga to help ground, stabilize, nourish, and prepare our bodies, minds, and nervous systems for the change afoot.

Join Community Yoga with Megan Carnahan this Friday, August 29th at 4 pm online or in person.

Megan Carnahan, LISW
Megan grew up dancing and first discovered yoga at age 19—immediately falling in love with the practice. She completed her certification at Sadhana Yoga Studio in Iowa City and taught throughout her 20s. Now, 15 years later, she feels called to return to teaching.

In recent years, as life has grown busier, Megan has been especially drawn to the quiet, grounding pace of Yin Yoga. She is excited to share this practice with the Heartland Yoga community.

As a somatic psychotherapist, Megan believes the deepest teacher is always within. She trusts in the body’s innate healing intelligence—an inner wisdom that guides us to heal, grow, and evolve when we pause and truly listen. Yin Yoga creates space for exactly that.

Our Story

Located in the heart of downtown Iowa City, Heartland Yoga provides a beautiful, sacred space where students come together to practice yoga and to heal.

Our studio opened in June 2008....right in the middle of Eastern Iowa’s worst flood. We were set to officially open our doors on Monday, June 9, the same day volunteers were sandbagging multiple University buildings around campus. For our first week, we offered free yoga to all the volunteers and overwhelmed residents of Iowa City, which is actually quite symbolic of what Heartland Yoga is all about.

We are all about community, healing, and providing a safe and sacred space for people to come and take care of themselves in a deep way. People consistently comment about how powerful the space is. Some have said that just being in our space makes them feel better, and that’s before any yoga. So if you are aware that you need some kind of shift in your life, whether it’s physically, mentally, emotionally....Heartland Yoga is a great place to come. Our teachers are supportive, highly trained, and inclusive....and all bodies, shapes, sizes, races, sexual orientations, ages, and experience levels are welcomed.

To celebrate our 10 years of existence, we are celebrating with 10 BIG EVENTS starting June 2018. Please join us!
