The flu is getting nasty right now, with many referring to it as a "super flu" outbreak. It is causing serious illness right now across the country, and this map can help you get an idea of the activity level in each state.
This is definitely something to take seriously, especially if you or a loved one is at high risk, such as children, elderly, and those with compromised immune symptoms.
You can buy inexpensive test kits at your local pharmacy, Walmart, and other stores to test, or you can visit your healthcare provider or local urgent care.
Symptoms can be quite strong with this flu, including severe body aches, persistent fevers (101-103 F+), sore throat, cough, congestion, runny nose, sneezing, headache, muffled hearing sensation, GI upset (nausea, vomiting, cramps, diarrhea), and more.
Make sure you drink plenty of fluids (electrolyte drinks, soups, water, iv hydration, salt therapy). Pain relievers/fever reducers such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen may provide some relief (consult with your healthcare provider).
NOTE: Avoid aspirin or Pepto-Bismol when you have the flu or other viral illness, especially in children or teens due to the risk of developing Reye's Syndrome.
Also, antivirals such as Tamiflu must generally be started within 48 hours of symptoms for them to work fully, which is important to know if you are at high risk.
Please be safe!!
