Today marks Ashley’s final day as a DPT intern at Team Iowa. Next up: graduation from . Ashley has been such a fantastic student. Here’s what Mack had to say about working with Ashley:

We would never wish for our patients to have to return, but we’re ready to help if they need to. This scenario played out with our patient, Ashlyn, who has reached her PT and running goals several times with Emily.

“My time at Team Iowa was everything I could’ve asked for! I started seeing Emily in the middle of my cross country season, Junior year of high school. I had been experiencing hip pain all through high school and never got any straight answers of what was wrong with me and what the steps were to fix it. My parents and I decided I needed a change in what I was doing for physical therapy.

Halfway through the season I called Team Iowa and was able to get in that same week. Immediately when I met Emily, the narrative changed from limiting me from the things I wanted to do to achieve my goals, to the steps I was going to take to achieve my goals. I continued going to physical therapy throughout the rest of the season and was able to run at the state meet and place third overall as a team!

In my senior year of high school, I discovered that my labrum was torn in my hip. Instead of shutting me down completely, Emily worked with me to make this running injury the best it could be throughout my cross country and track seasons. I felt like even though I was dealing with something that was really discouraging, every single time I left Team Iowa I was leaving with a smile on my face and feeling a little bit better than I did before walking in.

During my freshman year of college I got surgery to repair the torn labrum in my hip. When they asked where I wanted to complete my physical therapy at, my answer was immediate: Team Iowa with Emily. I finished all my rehabilitation being able to run, jump, and lift pain free. I’m now running farther distances than I ever had and training for my first half marathon!

Overall, I would say that Team Iowa feels like a family. It felt like Emily was my biggest cheerleader and everyone in the clinic was wanting to see me meet my goals! It’s a place full of genuine people who are all invested in seeing you succeed!” -Ashlyn W.

Each year, to celebrate our anniversary, we donate to a local organization that directly supports our fellow community members.

With the recent baby boom at Team Iowa, we decided that we want to support more moms, dads and babies throughout our community.

Our 9 year anniversary donation is going to the Johnson County Public Health‘s WIC (Women Infant and Children) program. This program provides supplemental nutrition, education, as well as healthcare services to mothers (and other primary caregivers), infants and children up to 5 years old.

Supporting moms, dads and babies in our community begins by taking care of the moms, dads and babies at Team Iowa. Did you know: Team Iowa offers 12 weeks paid maternity leave and six months off for all of our full-time moms? We also provide 6 weeks of paid paternity leave for dads.

Leo Patrick James Nelson arrived as dad’s most epic 40th birthday gift at 12:38am on 3/5/26.

This week we celebrate 9 years of Team Iowa. Our family has lived many lifetimes since opening our doors in 2017. Through the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, the thing we are most proud of is that we keep showing up. The circumstances and path that brought Leo to our family is a testament to this.

We don’t know what life has in store for us, but we do know this: if we keep showing up, with love and hope, we will figure it out. We are now one day shy of three weeks with our sweet Leo and our love for him and our entire family continues to grow.

Whether it is showing up for our family, our team, our patients or our community, we can extend this same promise to all of you: that we will keep showing up with love and hope. We also know we could not do this alone. Thank you for your support, your trust and your kindness. We feel the love and are so grateful for each and every person in the Team Iowa community. Cheers to 9 years and to many, many more.

When Paolo approaches you and tells you he has an idea, two things are probably true: 1: You’re in for something fun and/or crazy. 2: It’s a good idea to just say yes 🙂 . So, when Paolo approached me (Annalise) last fall and shared his plan, the answer was an emphatic yes.

There we were, nearing the end of our photo shoot with Lindsay McGowan Photography and Lindsey (as instructed by Paolo) said, “One, two three- Paolo and Hannah are having a baby!”

This series of photos is what resulted from the announcement. Congratulations to Hannah and Paolo! We are so excited for your sweet babe to arrive this spring.

We are excited to introduce the newest member of our team, Taylor Hartley.

Taylor Hartley, PT, DPT, is originally from Fort Dodge, Iowa. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Iowa, and also received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Iowa in December, 2025. She is excited to stay in the Iowa City area and was drawn to Team Iowa for their strong sense of community and emphasis on providing patient-centered care. In her free time, Taylor enjoys swimming, reading, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
