Systems Unlimited has been Eastern Iowa’s social services leader for people with disabilities. Through it all, we’ll be at your side.

Since 1971, Systems Unlimited has been proudly delivering excellence in care for people with disabilities and mental health needs in Eastern Iowa. Each one of our services—supported living, day programs, employment systems, behavioral health solutions, guidance for families, and more—are aimed at helping people of all ages live their best life. We provide in-home support whether p

eople want to continue to live in a place they already call home or if they want to move into homes in the community operated by Systems. Together, we’ll work with you to help set and achieve lifelong goals and learn day-to-day tasks, such as cleaning and grocery shopping. Day Programs & Employment Systems
Our day programs are focused on relationship building, exploring self-expression through art, volunteerism, and visiting area attractions. We also work with more than 50 area businesses to help those we serve find jobs in the community and provide any needed support for that person to maintain their job. On average, we have about 200 people in positions at any given time. Behavioral Health
Our committed team of clinical professionals includes licensed ABA therapists, behavioral support professionals, and nursing staff. They provide support to our staff and community members to ensure the people we serve receive innovative services to overcome life challenges. Advocacy and Guidance

Systems Unlimited was founded as a nonprofit in 1971 by a group of parents who wanted to ensure those we care for can live in safe, comfortable houses locally and be taught skills that allow them to live as independently as possible. We would like to give a huge shoutout to Alpha Sigma Phi for being such an amazing volunteer group! 🙌

Since August, they’ve supported us in so many ways from walking alongside participants in our Walking Club, to helping prep for and volunteer at our Live Your Best Life Sensory Walk, to joining in on SCL activities like our recent Bowling Night at Bowl Dogs 🎳

We’re so thankful for their energy, dedication, and willingness to jump in wherever needed. You make a difference!

As we continue celebrating Volunteer Appreciation Week, we’re excited to highlight Madison and the impact she has made.

Madison volunteered this year alongside Matt, and during their time together they built a meaningful connection through shared activities like baking desserts, making treats for Matt’s dog, playing video games, and spending time talking about life.

Madison is currently studying Therapeutic Recreation and Pre-Occupational Therapy at the University of Iowa and is graduating this year.

We are grateful for the time, energy, and compassion Madison has shared with our community. We wish her the very best in her next chapter and feel fortunate to have been part of her journey.

Meet our amazing volunteer, Ghada! When she’s not busy with her pre-med studies, she’s building meaningful connections through our Supported Community Living program. After being introduced to Robin, the two now get together twice a month for fun outings like painting, grabbing coffee, or simply enjoying each other’s company.

With spring and summer around the corner, Ghada and Robin are especially excited to get out to concerts and soak up the sunshine together ☀️🎶

We’re so thankful for Ghada’s time, kindness, and the positivity she brings to those we serve. We truly appreciate all that you do! ✨

Today we celebrate World Down Syndrome Day, a global day dedicated to recognizing the lives, achievements, and contributions of people with Down syndrome. The date, 3/21, represents the three copies of chromosome 21 that people with Down syndrome have.

This year’s theme, “Together Against Loneliness,” reminds us that everyone deserves meaningful connections, belonging, and opportunities to fully participate in their communities.

At Systems Unlimited, we are proud to support individuals with disabilities in living meaningful, self-directed lives. Today, and every day, we celebrate the unique talents, perspectives, and joy that people with Down syndrome bring to our community.

At Systems Unlimited, no two paths look exactly the same because no two people are the same 💙☀️

For Jimmy, one of his goals is to build independence through cooking, and he’s been working hard to make it happen.

This week, Jimmy proudly showcased those skills by making homemade chicken Alfredo with his staff. 🍝👏 And yes, it was as exciting (and delicious) as it sounds!

When services are centered on a person’s goals, confidence grows, skills shine, and milestones turn into moments worth celebrating.

Way to go, Jimmy! 🌟👨‍🍳

Our Story

Supported Living Division Systems Unlimited provides supported community living services to children and adults in their own homes. Family Systems Division Our diverse staff provide a variety of services to people with and without disabilities. We offer therapy to individuals, couples and families. Employment Systems Division Employment Systems provides supported employment, non-vocational and facility-based vocational services for adults with developmental disablities and similar service needs. Representative Payee Services This service is designed to assist individuals who are seeking knowledge and development of individual money management skills. Elderly Services The services are intended to provide relief to families or individuals who are the primary care taker for an aging relative.
