When your child “acts out” how do you respond?
What would it look like to connect? And what would it look like to correct?
The left side of the brain or the “later to learn” side of the brain is responsible for activating logic and language.
So if your child is upset, they must first feel safety- first feel connection before they can process information.
Connect, then correct.
And even more than just correct, teach them to repair. We all make mistakes in relationships. More important than correcting your child for misbehavior is teaching them to feel empowered by their ability to make a repair.

STATEMENT:
"Reports of children in U.S. detention centers being held in unsafe, potentially traumatizing conditions are appalling. Regardless of the circumstances under which children enter this country, there is NO excuse for failing to provide the proper physical and psychological care that they need to feel and be safe.
There is no justification for intentional cruelty against children under any circumstance or for any reason. Doing so not only undermines the well-being of the children involved, it also diminishes the core values of equity and human rights for the nation as a whole."
