Our community mourns the loss and celebrates the legacy of Daryl Granner, MD, professor emeritus in endocrinology and the founding director of the UI’s Diabetes Research Center. Dr. Granner was a world-renowned leader in his field, playing an instrumental role in making Iowa a premier institution for diabetes and endocrinology research. We are deeply grateful for his visionary leadership and the enduring mark it has left on UI Health Care.

Manasa Nayak, PhD, and Gagan Flora, PhD, research assistant professors in Hematology, Oncology, and Blood & Marrow Transplantation and members of Dr. Anil Chauhan's lab, have each received American Society of Hematology awards. Nayak earned a two-year, $150,000 ASH Junior Faculty Scholar Award for targeting platelet metabolism to combat platelet activation and thrombosis; Flora received a two-year, $125,000 ASH Fellow-to-Faculty Award for targeting aerobic glycolysis in platelets as an antithrombotic strategy. Congratulations, Dr. Nayak and Dr. Flora!
