Three years ago TODAY, our office closed (for what ended up being over 2 months!!!) due to the start of COVID-19 pandemic-mandated closures throughout the state of Iowa and across the country. Hard to believe that the start of the pandemic was THREE YEARS AGO!! Lots of changes since then but our commitment to patient and staff safety, cleanliness & sterlization, and health in the dental office always remains the same! 😷🦠🦷⏰😱

It is National Dental Assistant Appreciation Week and our office has two of the best. Sandra and BreeAnna work very hard to help keep our appointments running smoothly; they chart, they take x-rays, they do laboratory work, they assist chairside with procedures - they do it all. We are very lucky to have these two on our team and are thankful for everything they do! 🦷👏🏼👩🏼‍⚕️👩🏼‍⚕️🪥😀

Steve was a staple at the dental college and helped thousands of students find success with difficult laboratory projects for their patients. I am forever grateful that Steve was there to help when I was a student. Sending condolences to his family and all that loved him 🕊️🦷🤍

Steven "Steve" Vercande, a longtime staff member in the Department of Prosthodontics, passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on January 18, 2023. He leaves a deep and abiding legacy at the college and the entire dental profession in Iowa. He will be missed. Happy Halloween! Trick-or-treat is tonight in Iowa Falls from 5:30-7:30pm 🍭🍬🍫👻🎃

We indulge in candy, too - but be aware of some of the most potentially damaging candies to your teeth. Hard candies like jaw-breakers and Gobbstoppers are not meant to be chewed! You can risk fracturing your tooth or existing fillings. Very sticky candies like taffy and caramels can get stuck in the grooves of your teeth and contribute to cavities. Finally, super sour candies are acidic and can weaken the outer layer of the tooth (enamel).

Enjoy the sweet treats of Halloween - with caution - and always remember to brush 2x a day for 2 minutes….. and floss! 🦷🪥😆

Rounding out the weekend with Day 3 of the Implant Complications Seminar. Yesterday, we had the pleasure of touring the oldest distillery in the United States — Buffalo Trace! Any bourbon fans out there? 🦷🥃

Spending the end of this week in Louisville, Kentucky, with Implant Pathways for continuing education. This seminar focuses on Managing Implant Complications. No one likes a complication, but it’s important to have the advanced knowledge on how to prevent and treat a patient when things don’t go perfectly! Looking forward to learning more to better serve you! 🦷🦷

Due to recurring power outages in our area, we are not able to safely and predictably treat patients this afternoon 🔌🪫 We rely a whole lot on electricity here! Patients with scheduled appointments have been notified - we will keep you updated if this continues to be a problem after today.

Our office will be closed today - Monday, 10:3 - as Reece and I continue to recover from positive cases of COVID-19. Following CDC guidelines, we should be able to safely return to the office tomorrow. It’s hard to believe that Iowa River Dentistry is celebrating our 4th birthday! 🎉🎈🥳 Owning my own dental office started as a dream many years ago — and so many of you have helped make that dream a reality. It hasn’t always been easy (a global pandemic just as we were getting rolling!) but it’s definitely been worth it.
