Flu shots available at Hawk Pharmacy. No appt necessary. Medicare, Medicaid and most insurances pay 100%.
Here are some common myths about the flu. Myth number one: influenza is not that serious so I donât need the vaccine. 650,000 people die from the flu every year. this only represents respiratory deaths so the likely impact is even higher. Even healthy people can get the flu, but especially people whose immune systems are vulnerable. Most people will recover within a few weeks, but some can develop complications including sinus and ear infections, pneumonia, and heart or brain inflammation.
Myth number two: the flu vaccine can give me the flu. This is the most common thing we hear at the pharmacy. âI donât get the flu shot because last time I took it, it gave me the flu.â The injected flu vaccine does not contain the live virus and thus cannot give you the flu. If you feel achy or slightly feverish after a flu vaccine, that is a normal reaction of your immune system and generally lasts only a day or two.
Myth # 3, the flu vaccine can cause severe side effects. The flu vaccine is proven to be safe. Severe side effects are extremely rare.
Myth number 4: I had the vaccine and still got the flu so the vaccine doesnât work. Several flu viruses are circulating -
all the time & while the vaccine isnât 100% effective at preventing every case of flu, being vaccinated improves the chance of being protected. This is especially important to stop the virus affecting people with vulnerable symptoms. So if you get the vaccine and still get the flu, chances are youâre gonna have much less severe symptoms and the duration will be much shorter.
Myth # 5: I am pregnant so shouldnât get the flu vaccine. Pregnant women should especially get the flu vaccine since their immune systems are weaker than usual. The inactivated flu vaccine is safe at any stage of pregnancy. Also, the baby will be born with the motherâs immunities which is an added bonus.
Many people are confused on whether or not they should get the Covid vaccine. We are recommending what the CDC is recommending. If you are over 65, itâs a good idea to get the Covid vaccine. If you are 12 to 64 and have an underlying condition such as asthma, COPD, heart condition, or are immuno ïżŒcompromised, it is recommended to get the COVID vaccine annually.
The COVID vaccine has been proven to decrease deaths, hospitalizations, and âlongâCOVID in these groups.
