I would like to continue sharing information from a book that I mentioned earlier, "Why Zebras Don't Get Ulcers". In a nutshell, the book is about how we turn the "acute" stress response, generated solely with our thoughts of fear and worry, on its ear.
This chronic mental wrestling match in turn, causes illness and sickness within our body. In contrast, animals use their stress response for acute, physical crisis but not so much for social issues or disruptions and any perceived psychological problems.
Our body has a unique system of keeping everything in check; if we are hot our body corrects in ways to cool us down and in contrast, if we are cold, our body will ensure mechanisms kick in that will keep us warm, e.g., shivering.
Our long-term stress response knocks the body out of balance and reduces our body's ability to rest, recover and even affects our immune system.
If we live this way long enough, we put ourselves at risk to be more vulnerable to one of the chronic diseases that we will likely encounter.
I'll continue to post on this subject and eventually share some ideas to get out of this vicious cycle.
God bless everyone!
