✨🇫🇮At hot stone massage training today, I learned the history of it and had to share. Although written and spoken history shows that civilizations 2,000 years ago used hot stones for healing by placing them on organs, or certain patterns, it was Mary Nelson in 1993 who created LaStone Therapy, which is commonly called hot stone massage. It was when she was sitting in a sauna taking a short break before giving another session to her daughter, who was also present. She took one of the stones out of the rock basket and started working her hand with it and then her daughter’s upper trapezius and hot stone massage was born. The teacher I’m training with was trained by Mary and eventually taught for LaStone Therapy. When she was sharing this story, she said sauna (sow-na) the correct way followed by saying, “No, it’s not pronounced saw-na. My Finnish heart was happy!🇫🇮✨
