We’re thrilled to introduce Debra Beauregard as the newest CTR Advisory Team member.

With over 30 years as a healthcare executive, Debra has worked alongside hundreds of leading specialists. Her career has been defined by a deep belief in collaboration, not just among providers, but with patients.

“It’s completely normal to be overwhelmed by a diagnosis, unsure about treatment plans, and confused or unaware of options. I’ve had close friends and family members who didn’t know how to speak up, to ask questions, or to reach out for support, waiting too long to make important decisions about their care plans, and the results can be devastating,” Debra shares. “Everyone deserves the confidence that they’re not navigating their care journey alone. It takes teamwork, with open communication and collaboration to ensure the best possible outcomes.”

That belief in putting the patient first is also what first connected Debra and CTR’s founder, Candy Hammeras, years ago—first as colleagues, then as close friends. Their shared conversations about the gaps in patient advocacy and care helped shape the foundation of CTR itself. We’re honored to have Debra’s voice, experience, and heart helping guide our mission forward.

Please join us in welcoming Debra, and stay tuned for more of her insights as we continue the vital work of guiding patients through complex health challenges with clarity, courage, and compassion.

Welcome, Debra Beauregard, MBA – Founding Advisory Team Member

Julia Post Guenther’s Brain Tumor Story - Moments That Matter

In 2018, Julia was living her best life—as a wife and mother, running her jewelry company, philanthopy, and traveling when, in an instant, everything changed.

On Christmas night, her husband and son rushed her to the ER after she appeared catatonic, and after an emergency MRI was done, she received a devastating diagnosis: a brain tumor, possibly cancer. She was told by doctors that she would need emergency surgery in a few hours, the tumor was quite large! Hours later, a second opinion revealed it was likely benign, but the confusion only deepened the fear and uncertainty.

A friend introduced Julia to Candy Hammeras. Within days, Julia was under the care of Dr. Linda Liau at UCLA—one of the world’s leading neurosurgeons. With expert guidance, a solid plan, and a trusted team, Julia moved forward with clarity and strength.

Julia’s journey launches our May campaign, 'Moments That Matter,' highlighting the life-changing moments of advocacy, clarity, and connection that define CTR.

Announcing Our Founding Advisory Member: Julia Post Guenther

We believe the most meaningful change begins in a moment—when someone shows up, listens deeply, and chooses to act.

That’s precisely how Julia stepped into CTR’s story.

A former patient of Candy Hammeras —before CTR even had a name—and a longtime advocate for those in need, Julia joined us at our Gratitude in Action event this March. There, something shifted. Surrounded by families, surgeons, and fellow survivors, she witnessed the full scale of CTR’s impact—and felt called to do more.

Today, we’re honored to announce Julia Post Guenther as the founding member of the CTR Advisory Team.

Her journey with CTR is deeply personal, but her vision is universal: to help build a healthcare system that works better for everyone—by starting with the moments that matter most.

As CTR continues to grow, Julia will help champion our mission, offering insight, strategy, and a powerful reminder that the most trusted voices in advocacy often begin as the most grateful.

This is just the beginning of something bigger.

Thank You for Putting Gratitude in Action - Real change in healthcare begins with community.

To everyone who joined us—whether in person or spirit—for our March event, 'Gratitude in Action,' thank you. Your support, presence, and belief in our mission helped us take the first step in what will define 2025 and beyond: Building a Stronger Healthcare Community.

We are especially grateful to the brave families who took the stage and shared their journeys—Dayna and Dylan, Yuan, Mekdes and Ezana, David, Lori and Lili, and Haven. These stories are the heart of what we do. And thanks to their generosity, we’re able to share them on social media so others can find strength, guidance, and hope in moments that matter most.

We were also honored to be joined by UCLA’s renowned liver transplant surgeons, Dr. Agopian and Dr. Kaldas, along with UCLA’s expert physician/researcher on youth sarcoma, Dr. Federman, who helped us celebrate the power of collaboration and care at the highest level.

When gratitude becomes action, relationships evolve, trust deepens, and doors open.

That’s our mission. And we’re just getting started.

We have exciting news coming soon that reinforces our commitment to this community-first approach. Stay with us. More to come.

Stay with this video—it starts quietly, but what unfolds is unforgettable...

CTR – Building a Stronger Healthcare Community in 2025. Meet Lili—a brave young girl navigating a complex medical journey. Her story, shared through her mom's voice, Lori Lee Roden, is a powerful reminder of how community and connection can genuinely change lives.

After exploratory surgery, multiple MRIs, and three-second opinions, answers still felt out of reach. Then, everything changed through the miracle of a single social media post in a Facebook group of over 300,000 parents.

Missy Pace Callero saw Lori’s post and reached out—and that connection led her to Cancer Teamwork Response.

Watch the video to hear how one online connection opened the door to personalized guidance, support, and hope when it mattered most.

Please share this story. It may be exactly what someone needs—or lead them to the guidance CTR can offer.

A word from CTR founder, Candy Hammeras:

As we packed up Christmas decorations, I came across this beautiful handmade tree—a gift from Mrs. George Hoag in 1992. She created it using scraps of wrapping paper from her family’s home. This thoughtful gift brought back memories of my time at Hoag Hospital and gave me a moment to reflect on how much our healthcare system has changed.

While treatments and diagnoses have advanced, growing shortages in doctors, nurses, hospital beds, mental healthcare, and other resources are creating new challenges. These shortages, combined with delays in time to diagnosis, impact everyone; WE ARE ALL PATIENTS.

In 2025, our mission at the nonprofit I founded, Cancer Teamwork Response, is to unite the community to navigate these challenges collectively. Working together can help patients and families overcome the obstacles of a fragmented healthcare system.

💡 Interested in how can you help? Support us by following Cancer Teamwork Response on social media, sharing our mission, and helping us build a stronger, more connected community. Together, we can make a difference.
