We think of flexibility as a good thing but can it be too much?
In PT school, we’re taught that range of motion is a “the more the better” situation.
Sure, having good mobility is great, especially if you have good control of it. But what happens when you dont?
Hypermobility can range from severe, like Ehler’s Danlos Syndrome, to having excessive range of motion.
The effect this has on your brain can be significant as the brain relies on sensing the body for good information to make decisions and move through space safely.
When your body isn’t giving the brain good feedback through tension, the brain lives in a state of tension itself. Think fight-or-flight.
This can lead to all sorts of problems, tensions, and pains.
Are you hypermobile or know someone with hyper mobility?
