What are the side effects of Botox or Dysport?

Side effects include possible discomfort or bruising at the site of injection. Other extremely rare, transient reported side effects are infection, sore throat, flu, headache, fever, neck or back pain, itching, difficulty with swallowing, speaking, or breathing, and anxiety.

You should not be treated if you have an infection at the site of injection or are hypersensitive to any of the ingredients. Serious allergic reactions and cardiac events have been rarely reported with a high dosage of BTX-A injection; these are considered to be unusual cases or situations.

Dr. Shafa has been injecting Botox, and later Dysport and Xeomin, every single day since 1986. She admits that she has never experienced any significant unwanted side effects. For more information, please read the package insert.

What is the difference between a non-fractional laser and a fractional laser?

Non-fractional lasers typically deliver laser beams and energy into the entire surface of the skin and treat the full outer sheet of the skin (also called “full-field” CO2 laser). Since the entire superficial layer of the skin is treated, one single treatment is sufficient to create an effective deep skin rejuvenation. Non-fractional lasers are generally more aggressive, require anesthesia, have intense downtime, cost more, and most importantly, have a greater chance of complications compared to their fractional laser counterpart.

Fractional lasers deliver laser energy into the skin in a fractionated or “pixelated” form, which means that the laser light and energy are introduced into the skin by thousands of tiny dots, which creates micro-channel injuries in the skin. The advantage of this is that each injured column in the skin is surrounded by intact skin tissue, which aids in a faster healing period and less risk of complications. This procedure is much more gentle, well-controlled for risk and benefits, less costly, and does not need full anesthesia.

How do you know if you have a Keloid? Signs, Causes & Treatment Options by OC MedDerm

It is advisable that you make an appointment with us at OC MedDerm (949-551-1113), so that a detailed history about the lesion can be taken and an actual examination of the skin can be done. In most cases, keloids do occur with an antecedent injury or trauma, and once that site gets healed, it leaves a scar. When keloids are just formed, they appear firmer and smoother than the surrounding skin. Pain, tenderness, and itching are common feelings and sensations associated with keloids. The size of keloids differs from less than 1 centimeter to greater than 12 inches. People may tend to find it unsightly. Sizeable keloids do tend to be sore since the keloid-scarred tissue no longer holds a good fit against the skin. It can also be uncomfortable if it is very large and can pull at the skin depending on where it is located.
