“Superman’s Squad” isn’t just our team’s name. It’s a tribute to Dr. Roger F. Steinert, the founding director of UCI’s Gavin Herbert Eye Institute. Affectionately nicknamed “Superman” by his family, Dr. Steinert was a visionary ophthalmologist who pioneered advances in laser eye surgery. Even while battling glioblastoma, he continued to teach, research, and lead with unwavering dedication and humility.

We ride, walk, and raise funds not only to honor his spirit of resilience, excellence, and kindness, but also to support all those whose lives have been touched by cancer.
