Let’s have a real talk about standardized testing. 📝💭
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For so many of our neurodivergent kids, these tests do not measure what they know, they measure how long they can sit still, how well they process rigid instructions, or how much sensory input they can tolerate in a quiet, high-pressure room.
When we reduce a child’s brilliant, creative and unique mind to a percentile rank, we aren’t seeing the whole picture. We aren’t seeing the way they problem-solve outside the box, their deep empathy, or their incredible passions.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A standardized score doesn’t account for sensory processing differences, executive functioning challenges, communication differences or the fact that maybe, just maybe, their brain shines brightest when it is not forced into a box. 🧠✨
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We need to look beyond the numbers and start valuing the amazing strengths that don’t show up on score sheet. Does this resonate with your family’s experience. Let me know in the comments!

Let’s keep the conversation going! With love, your VV SLP, Sholeh
