Drs. Michelle Khine and Bernard Choi, University of California, Irvine Biomedical Engineering faculty, have been awarded a $409K, 2-year grant from the National Institute on Aging - NIH for the project titled, “Patch for Hemodynamic and Hemorrhage Monitoring.” Dr. Amir M. Rahmani, Professor of Nursing and Computer Science, is also a collaborator.

The grant will fund the development of an innovative wearable platform that integrates advanced sensors and AI to monitor the body and detect bleeding early. Severe bleeding is one of the leading causes of death following injury and faster detection can save lives. This technology aims to empower doctors to act sooner and improve survival outcomes in trauma care.

It was our great pleasure to host Dr. Junjie Yao from Duke University for our seminar at University of California, Irvine. Dr. Yao delivered an inspiring presentation, “From Light to Sound: Imaging, Treating, and Building Tissues at Depth.”

His presentation highlighted exciting advances at the intersection of optics, acoustics, and biomedical engineering, and was truly engaging and inspiring for both students and faculty.
