Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute An academic institute focused on scientific research and education in integrative medicine. We offer a combination of Western and complementary treatments.

The Susan Samueli Center for Integrative Medicine at UC Irvine School of Medicine, rated one of the top 50 U.S. medical schools by U.S. News & World Report, is an academic center focused on scientific research and education in integrative medicine. The center offers Western allopathic integrative medicine as well as complementary treatments such as acupuncture, naturopathy, Chinese herbal medicin

e, massage, yoga and education. The center was established in 2001 with a generous gift of $5.7 million from Henry and Susan Samueli to take a leadership role in exploring the frontiers of complementary and integrative medicine. Growing interest in integrative approaches for maintaining wellness, preventing disease and treating specific illnesses created a need for such a center to conduct rigorous scientific investigations of the physiological effects of these treatments. Education in this field is also a high priority of the center. The medical community is becoming more interested in integrative approaches that embrace nonconventional medical interventions as part of medical treatment when they are supported by solid scientific research. The Susan Samueli Center for Integrative Medicine is putting some of these approaches into practice. We also are working to educate both the medical and the lay communities about the benefits and risks associated with new approaches to the practice of medicine.

Join us August 19 for The Art of Science — an inspiring evening where discovery meets creativity and a string quartet shows the healing power of music.

Hosted by UC Irvine’s Center for Neural Circuit Mapping (CNCM), in collaboration with the UCI Medical Humanities & Arts Program and Pacific Symphony Heartstrings. The event will feature top brain scientists, artists, performers, and talks from field professionals to highlight the powerful intersection between artistic expression and scientific discovery.
Two members of the Samueli Institute community — Jeffery Dusek, PhD, director of outcomes research, and Xiangmin Xu, PhD, Samueli Scholar and director/co-founder of the CNCM — will present.

As part of the program, the Pacific Symphony will present a 30-minute performance by a string quartet, highlighting music from their Music Therapy program.

"This program showed up at a perfect time of my personal growth and the stage of my professional development," says Hui Hwang, LAc, who graduated from our Academic Integrative Medicine (AIM) Health & Wellness Coaching Certificate Program.

The 6-month certification program trains professionals in integrative health coaching strategies to empower clients from diverse backgrounds in making lasting lifestyle changes.

With a special focus on supporting those with mental health conditions (depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, mood disorders, etc.), students learn ways to recognize these conditions, communication techniques to address them, and whole-person approaches to support clients.

Graduates are eligible to apply for the HWC Certifying Examination to become a National Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC).
