Our SHA team covered some serious ground this summer.

From Africa to the American West, the Oregon coast to Serbia, and all the way to NYC. We pulled together a compilation of photos from everyone’s travels, and it’s a reminder of how many ways there are to explore, recharge, and get inspired.

Today on World Architecture Day, we’re spotlighting SHA Project Architect Ed Liang and his favorite landmark, the Domino Sugar Refinery in Brooklyn.

Built in the 1880s, the refinery’s brick facade and arched windows reflect New York City’s industrial past. Today, its modern glass interior within the preserved exterior stands as a striking example of adaptive reuse.

Before moving to Southern California, Ed lived in the neighborhood for years. “I would walk my dog, George, to the Domino Sugar often and sit for hours in admiration,” he recalls.

For Ed, this landmark is more than a piece of history. It serves as a personal reminder of how architecture connects the past with the present.

We are beyond honored to share that our team took home two awards at the Can-Do Awards last night: People’s Choice and Best Meal Award!

Winning People’s Choice for the second year in a row is especially humbling, and we are truly grateful to everyone who voted for us. Our structure raised $8,975.00. None of this would have been possible without our incredible partners at CDG and the dedicated team led by Lalo Del Rosal who brought creativity and heart to every step of the process.

Most importantly, together with all the teams, we helped donate 43,895 cans of food to the OC Food Bank which helps local families this holiday season.
