Not all Halloween treats are created equal—especially when it comes to your teeth!

Sticky, chewy candies like taffy, caramels, and gummies are some of the worst for dental health. Why? Because they cling to your teeth and settle into hard-to-reach places, feeding cavity-causing bacteria long after the last bite. Even worse? Sour candies, which are not only sticky but highly acidic—double trouble for enamel!

At 21st Century Dental & Sleep Center, giving back has always been at the heart of who we are. One cause especially close to Dr. Roy’s heart is the Lost Boys of Sudan, a group of young refugees who fled their homeland during a brutal civil war, walking over 1,000 miles to safety. Many of them arrived in the U.S. with little more than their resilience and hope.

Dr. Roy first got involved after seeing a newspaper ad calling on dentists to help. Since then, he’s built a lasting friendship with Peter Malou, one of the Lost Boys who has become a true community leader. Over the years, we’ve been honored to support Peter’s efforts—helping reunite him with his wife, supporting the launch of a pharmacy in South Sudan, and most recently, continuing to contribute financially through our annual Smiles for Life campaign.

Thanks to the generosity of our patients and community, we’ve now donated over $22,000 to the Aboudit Community in South Sudan since 2020.

Every smile you brighten with a whitening treatment here helps change lives far beyond our office doors. 💙
