(PREGNANT FO LIFE)

Just kidding, obviously nobody can be pregnant forever…I think lol

I’m just sticking this on my feed to remember this moment. Knowing I’m going to be out of commission for a while and not able to care for the kids as usual is my hardest thing about approaching postpartum. I’ve clipped 60 nails for the “last time” about 3 times. I’ve cleaned the bathrooms for the “last time” for like the 5th time, and I’ve stocked the fridge with snacks for the “last time” for like the 6th time.

Regarding going over the guess date- I recently had this reflection that labor and birth are states of alignment in mom and baby’s physiology. Pregnancy is a state of health not a medical problem, and consistency would only continue to define labor and birth in this way. In the meantime I’ll be leaning into God’s perfect timing and continuing to do the little, hidden tasks of motherhood like clipping 60 nails lol!

This is one thing I will never stop preaching. In an effort to make this topic not taboo, s*x gets profaned, exploited, and isolated from the Creator, but at we believe we can do nothing without Him.

As much as I love nerding out on the theology of God’s design for spousal love, my expertise is really the practicals as a pelvic floor therapist that helps women overcome pain and other mechanical issues related to s*x.

A particularly challenging season for women is navigating postpartum s*x. I feel like I have just about heard it all when it comes to the struggles women face, and because of this .amanda.murray and myself were moved to create The Postpartum S*x Guide as a resource that’s practical, actually helpful, and holds reverence over your marital intimacy. We were wonderfully blessed to collaborate with , functional OBGYN to really fill all the nooks and crannies with solid support for you in this season.

Better yet, we are offering a postpartum bundle discount when you add all 3 of our postpartum guides to your cart! This includes The Gap: A postpartum movement guide, The Well Nourished Mama: a postpartum nutrition guide, and of course this one, The Postpartum S*x Guide.

I don’t believe in pain free birth.

But, I do believe in supernatural grace to help you endure the pain and suffering. I also believe in God’s design for the body to flood you with oxytocin during labor to help you endure.

A Christian is promised they are going to suffer. Suffering isn’t bad, it’s redemptive.

We shouldn’t seek it out, but we shouldn’t run and hide from it either.

“When a woman is in labor, she is in anguish because her hour has arrived; but when she has given birth to a child, she no longer remembers the pain because of her joy that a child has been born into the world. So you also are now in anguish. But I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.” John 16:21-22

In regards to birth, I think the most helpful advice is to lean into it and to accept that suffering is just a part of the process whether that’s labor, birth, the aftermath, or all 3. And that’s OK.

I’m cool with training your brain to appreciate the difference between pain and pressure. Also, it’s just smart to prepare your body as much as possible through pelvic floor therapy, chiropractic, massages, nutrition, etc.

But, you won’t find me telling women they can push a human being out of their most sensitive parts with no suffering or that you can “manifest” your perfect birth.

I don’t have confidence in MY body. My confidence comes from the Creator of my body and of the body growing in my womb. He is the author of life, and He holds your birth.

“My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.” I will rather boast most gladly of my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may dwell with me.” 2 Cor 12:9

“she will be saved through motherhood, provided women persevere in faith and love and holiness, with self-control.” 1 Timothy 2:15

Heaviness? pressure? feeling like something is falling out of you?

Your prolapse is probably just the victim caught in the middle of hip dysfunction, pelvic misalignment, poor pressure management in the core, a rib cage that doesn’t move apart from your pelvis, a mid back that is chronically tight from all the forward postures we live in, or your fear of breathing ALL the way down there because of the intense downward pressure you already feel. This list isn’t exhaustive - I’ve had some cases I’ve had to Sherlock Holmes to get to the root of why the pressure is there, but rarely is the solution every slinging your bladder or taking out all your things (yes I’ve had surgeons recommend full hysterectomy, oophorectomy, and a bladder sling all for one person.)

Our bodies are not a jenga tower. We are fluid and mobile, and our organs need to slip and slide and dance with our breath.

true story: prolapse was what made me become a pelvic floor PT. I had the most intense pressure after my first. I could’t stand more than 10 min without the feeling of a bowling ball falling out of me. I was only 25 years old and terrified.

Since then, I have learned SO much, I have healed, and have had 2 other vaginal deliveries without a single hint of my prolapse symptoms returning.

Healing doesn’t happen when everything is perfect.

Healing happens when the scales tip. When there’s more awareness than disconnect, more mobility than stagnation, more good habits than bad, more strength than weakness.

Symptoms that hinder your life can go away even if the bladder, the disc, the ab muscles, **fill in the blank**, aren’t EXACTLY where they are “supposed to be”- whatever that means, as if all humans are exactly the same. 🙃🤦🏻‍♀️🫠

Cortisol hinders wound healing.

I’m sure you’ve heard about the hormone cortisol and how it may wreak havoc on many of your body’s systems. But, have you thought about the impact of this hormone on wound healing? Particularly- postpartum wound healing….the wound in your uterus, the cesarean wound, or perineal wounds?

Pack a traumatic birth experience that a mother has to process through on top of the sleep deprivation that comes from having a new baby, and you’ve got a recipe for a cortisol storm. When this connection was made for me, it made me wonder if high stress during postpartum could be a reason why so many women suffer from scar tissue sensitivity months and years down the road-whether it’s a cesarean or perineal scar?

The solution? postpartum support! There’s a lot of nuances to how a mother is supported postpartum, but I just wanted to share that when I was postpartum with my third, a friend just dropped some snacks on my doorstep. It didn’t’ solve my childcare problems or my sleep deprivation, and it didn’t feed my family dinner that night…..but I felt SO seen by her, and it was probably the most memorable support I received postpartum. Now, moms need more than snacks so sign up for that meal train when it comes through your inbox!!! But, postpartum support can be really simple like just dropping snacks off at her door to make her feel seen and may just drop her cortisol levels for a little bit.

Hardcore baby bumping over here! I have been a little quiet in this space lately. Honestly, it’s been a whole thing weaning our youngest baby sooner than I would have liked, and living a first trimester with 3! Thankfully, the haze is lifting, and we are so blessed to share baby #4 due in November!

Behold, children are a gift of the LORD,
The fruit of the womb is a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
So are the children of one’s youth.
Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them;
They will not be ashamed
When they speak with their enemies in the gate. Psalm 127 3-5

God’s design trumps the highest level of evidence.

As a doctor, I value scientific evidence and keeping up with the research. But, as a Christian, I value God’s design more. If the proper hierarchy in science still existed (meaning God first) then science would purely be discovery of God’s design. Unfortunately, that’s not the world we live in and there’s plenty of studies and evidence to practices that are in contradiction to God’s design or biblical truth. Just because you CAN do something doesn’t mean you should-cue discernment. In pelvic floor therapy this is so very important because the pelvic and s*xual space can get dicey real quick in our broken world. **I’m just here to hold reverence for the body and God’s design** The main topics where I find contradiction to God’s design are re**al manual therapy, contraception, and self pleasure. I’m also 100% aware and OK with being the black sheep here because God’s design is worth fighting for my friends! 💪🏻
