I don’t believe in pain free birth.
But, I do believe in supernatural grace to help you endure the pain and suffering. I also believe in God’s design for the body to flood you with oxytocin during labor to help you endure.
A Christian is promised they are going to suffer. Suffering isn’t bad, it’s redemptive.
We shouldn’t seek it out, but we shouldn’t run and hide from it either.
“When a woman is in labor, she is in anguish because her hour has arrived; but when she has given birth to a child, she no longer remembers the pain because of her joy that a child has been born into the world. So you also are now in anguish. But I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.” John 16:21-22
In regards to birth, I think the most helpful advice is to lean into it and to accept that suffering is just a part of the process whether that’s labor, birth, the aftermath, or all 3. And that’s OK.
I’m cool with training your brain to appreciate the difference between pain and pressure. Also, it’s just smart to prepare your body as much as possible through pelvic floor therapy, chiropractic, massages, nutrition, etc.
But, you won’t find me telling women they can push a human being out of their most sensitive parts with no suffering or that you can “manifest” your perfect birth.
I don’t have confidence in MY body. My confidence comes from the Creator of my body and of the body growing in my womb. He is the author of life, and He holds your birth.
“My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.” I will rather boast most gladly of my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may dwell with me.” 2 Cor 12:9
“she will be saved through motherhood, provided women persevere in faith and love and holiness, with self-control.” 1 Timothy 2:15
