👬 Read our latest blog post about RWC resident Bob W's experience with his fellow engineer and Virginia Tech college roommate and how they've remained best of friends to this day!

"Bruce and I have known each other since we were in Ms. Duff’s 5th grade class. We were 10 years old. We were in Ms. Adams’ 6th grade class and Ms. Self’s 7th. We progressed through 8th grade and high school together. We rode the same school bus and were in the Scouts together. Both of us came from large families and our fathers were coal miners.

For all our similarities and common experiences, we had our differences. I was the oldest of 9 children and he was number 6 of 7. He was thoughtful and introverted and kept his powder dry until he chose to participate. I was outgoing, extremely extroverted and too often what came to my mind came to my lips. Bruce was built to be an engineer. I would have to adapt and learn how to inject personality into the equation."

👬 Read our latest blog post introducing a new feature series -- roommates. Most everyone has had one at one point or another in their life. They can be funny or a pain -- but always memorable!

Introducing a New Feature Series: Roommates By Jay Walker Many of us have had roommates in the past at school or as a cost-sharing arrangement. Some were agreeable, or not. Roommates can be funny. Qwashaw, affectionately known as “Q,” is a standout member of our landscaping department.
Q consistently goes above and beyond to ensure every task is completed with care and excellence. Whether it's routine maintenance or a new challenge, Q approaches each job with a can-do attitude and a willingness to learn. His recent work on a major grading project—despite having no prior experience—was a testament to his quick learning and commitment to quality.
Beyond his technical skills, Q shines in his relationships with both staff and residents. He’s always ready to lend a hand. As his supervisors, Damon Chowning and Chad Bishop put it, “Q is very flexible and versatile, and that’s what makes him so valuable.”
Dependable, hardworking, and kind-hearted, Q embodies the spirit of teamwork and service. We’re lucky to have him on our team—and even luckier to work alongside him every day.

RWC resident Larry Hammond went from serving in 🇻🇳Vietnam to playing in 🥁 rock n’ roll bands.

As November approaches, RWC prepares to honor its military veterans through the annual Veterans Wall of Honor exhibit, where stories and photographs of those who served will be displayed in the RWC Gallery Hall. Among the featured veterans is RWC resident Sergeant Larry Hammond, whose journey from Roanoke, Virginia, to the jungles of Vietnam is both poignant and inspiring.
