I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and I work from an Experiential systems approach, which might be different than other therapists you've had in the past. My vision of therapy focuses more on how the world and the different "systems" with which you interact impact your life. These include family, school, current or previous partners, and multicultural elements like race, nationality,

gender identity, s*xual orientation, and much more. I provide therapy to individuals, groups, couples, and families with various presenting concerns including but not limited to: depression, anxiety, self-esteem, s*x and relationships, and changes through the lifespan. My goal is to help you increase self-awareness and facilitate change in your day-to-day relationships, allowing for a more congruent way of life. I hope to create a non-judgmental, warm, and safe environment for you to explore your needs on how to grow and change.

The only constant thing in life is change!

Over the past few months, we've been busy opening up the new office and welcoming our new team of clinicians. Also during this time, Dr. Nick completed the requirements for his LPC 🎉

So now, being Nick Summa LMFT LLC doesn't fully make sense anymore.

We've been wracking our brains to come up with a new practice name that encompasses our mission to STILL provide wholehearted counseling to individuals, couples, and families, but everything is either too cliché or already taken.

If you have any suggestions or ideas, let us know in the comments or send us a DM!

Ok fam 🌈

I don’t normally do this - putting colleagues on blast - but i received this email a few days ago from a fellow EFT trained couples therapist in Pittsburgh looking for a referral for one of her clients. The client requested an EFT couples therapist who denounces the LGBTQ+ “lifestyle”.

First, I was shocked she sent this to me - a man proudly married to a man.

Second, this request goes against .official standards and mission statement.

Likewise, any licensed professional counselor, MFT, social worker must follow guidelines from their accrediting bodies that all promote equity and lgbtq+ inclusivity.

At the end of the day, emails like this remind me that I need to be louder and more forthright about what we do here:

We love and support everyone - especially our q***r brothers and sisters.

We advocate for equity and challenge oppressive forces in whatever ways we can.

And we promote healthy relationships through corrective experiences of support and collaboration.

Division and “denouncing” has no space here.

WE ARE IN! 🎉

We still have a lot of work to do to make the new space homey and cozy, but we have walls and furniture!

We are so excited to welcome you to the space! Clients can start seeing their therapists as early as this week, but we are planning an open house for everyone to get a chance to bring some love and joy into the new Pittsburgh chapter of the practice. Keep an eye out for that!
