Norwin Counseling Services

Norwin Counseling Services When did one day just turn into another, and where have your dreams gone? Sometimes it gets too hard to figure out on your own. Therapy can help.

Lately it seems like you are in the valley and everyone else is reaping the benefits of being on the mountaintop. I am a licensed clinical social worker with 20+ years of practice experience. Call me and make an appointment. People who come to see me may have felt saddened or overwhelmed. They may have recently had a major shift in their lives, or someone they love may have passed away. Maybe they

wake up at night and can't get that gnawing in their gut to go away. Perhaps their marriage is in trouble and resentment and anger have taken the place of love and kindness. Some of the persons that contact me just want to be happy and able to live each day to their potential, but have obstacles in their way. Some have built strong fortresses around themselves and are afraid to let anyone find the door or the key. Confidential professional help is a phone call away. Please contact me today. I can help you see your problems from a different perspective and help you move on.

Cliff Notes from my two part podcast with Brené Brown about how to apologize and why it matters. Speaking of “hard conversations” we sure dig in.

The man doesn’t know that there is a snake underneath. The woman doesn’t know that there is a stone crushing the man. The woman thinks: “I am going to fall! And I can’t climb because the snake is going to bite me! Why can’t the man use a little more strength and pull me up!” The man thinks: “I am in so much pain! Yet I’m still pulling you as much as I can! Why don’t you try and climb a little harder!?”

The moral is— you can’t see the pressure the other person is under, and the other person can’t see the pain you’re in. This is life, whether it’s with work, family, feelings or friends, we should try to understand each other. Learn to think differently, perhaps more clearly and communicate better. A little thought and patience goes a long way. 💙

JOURNEY OF THE SOUL

One of the qualities that you can develop, particularly in your older years, is a sense of great compassion for yourself. When you visit the wounds within the temple of memory, you should not blame yourself for making bad mistakes that you greatly regret. Sometimes you have grown unexpectedly through these mistakes. Frequently, in a journey of the soul, the most precious moments are the mistakes. They have brought you to a place that you would otherwise have always avoided. You should bring a compassionate mindfulness to your mistakes and wounds. Endeavor to inhabit the rhythm you were in at that time. If you visit this configuration of your soul with forgiveness in your heart, it will fall into place itself. When you forgive yourself, the inner wounds begin to heal. You come in out of the exile of hurt into the joy of inner belonging.

I went to therapy for the first time when I was 28 years old when I was struggling with bulimia.

On and off, I've spent decades of my life talking to a therapist.

We think we're going to therapy to be fixed, but actually I discovered I went to therapy to be heard.

For the first time in my life I could speak out loud all the pain that I kept locked up inside of me.

We're not broken, we have suffering living inside of our precious being that must come out.

It's like having a splinter in the bottom of our foot for decades, that causes us pain every time we walk on it, and once it's out we feel relief and learn to walk again without the pain.

None of us are broken.
We may just need access to therapy.
We can begin the healing process by talking with a trusted friend or therapist who will not invade or abandon us.

You are worthy and whole. I love you.❤️

(I love when I realize I'm handling a situation better than my old self would have.-)
