Volunteer Opportunity: Patient & Family Support Calls

We are seeking compassionate volunteers to make weekly "tuck-in" phone calls to our patients and their families. These short, friendly check-ins help ensure that loved ones have everything they need for the week ahead and feel supported and cared for.

This is a wonderful way to make a meaningful impact and bring comfort, reassurance, and connection to those we serve.

On Sunday, September 28th, Team Heartland - Irwin was represented at the 2025 Walk To End Alzheimer's in Westmoreland County, PA.

Executive Director Ann Donovan, Volunteer Coordinator Sharon Helminiak, and Hospice Care Consultant Brandy Muth were at the event, handing out the perfect swag to walkers, cooling towels! Also available was hospice literature as well as information about the volunteer program.

Some of the attendees who approached the Heartland Hospice vendor table had a special place in their hearts for the services we provide, as they relayed memories and shared stories of loved ones who benefitted from the beautiful care of hospice. Even groups representing some of the care homes that the Heartland Irwin office services were among those who came up to talk with Team Heartland.

Heartland Hospice - Irwin is also proud to be a member of the Westmoreland County Chamber of Commerce and recognized other Chamber members at the walk as well. Volunteer Coordinator Sharon Helminiak said, "It was a privilege being present at this year's Alzheimer's Walk, and as Heartland Hospice builds rapport in the community and county, fostering relationships with others we see at these venues is just as meaningful."

Hospice remains one of the most underused resources in healthcare. Our care consultants work to educate communities so that patients and families can receive the right care at the right time. The Heartland Irwin team is available to provide educational programs across Allegheny, Armstrong, Fayette, and Westmoreland counties.
