Serenity Circle Counseling began in 2007 as Introspective Therapeutic Services. After attending a networking event focused on authenticity and being true to yourself, I realized the vision I had for the agency was something much more personal and meaningful to me. In 2008, the name was changed to Serenity Circle Counseling — a name that better reflected the warmth, connection, and sense of support I hoped to create.
From the beginning, my goal was to create something that felt more personal than many larger agencies. I wanted clients to feel welcomed, recognized, and genuinely cared about from the moment they reached out to us. Making that first phone call for support can be incredibly difficult, and we recognize the courage it takes to reach out. Our front desk “rockstar,” Jen, helps answer questions, navigate scheduling, and warmly greet clients when they enter our space because every person matters here.
Long before entering the mental health field, I worked as a customer service trainer, and those experiences continue to shape how I lead the agency today. Customer service is deeply important to me because everybody deserves to feel valued, respected, and acknowledged.
One of the most powerful things I have witnessed throughout my career is the human capacity for resiliency and perseverance. I have also personally seen what can happen to individuals and relationships when help is not sought. There is support available, and healing often begins with simply reaching out and accepting help.
Prior to COVID, I volunteered with the American Red Cross mental health unit, responding to disasters such as hurricanes and tornadoes. While the devastation was heartbreaking, witnessing communities come together to support one another during difficult times was incredibly meaningful and reinforced just how important human connection truly is.
Having a mental health agency in a rural community is especially meaningful to me. Areas such as Isanti do not always have many places where people can gather, connect, and feel supported. Connection plays an important role in mental health and healing, which is one reason we hope to expand our group therapy offerings once our new building is completed in late 2026.
As the agency has grown, my primary responsibilities have gradually shifted into the role of Clinical Director. Part of my role is creating systems, procedures, and processes that work well for both clients and staff while helping ensure people feel supported throughout their experience with Serenity Circle Counseling. Supporting our staff is something I care deeply about and take great pride in because I believe supported clinicians are better able to support the people they serve.
What I am most proud of at Serenity Circle Counseling is our staff. The agency has grown gradually and intentionally over the years, and I work hard to find therapists and team members who are not only educated and skilled, but also kind, compassionate, and well-rounded human beings with both professional and life experience. I truly believe the people within an organization shape the experience clients have, and I am incredibly grateful for the team we have built.
Outside of work, I live in Isanti County with my husband of 19 years, our teenage son (who somehow became taller than me by age 12), our two dogs, four cats, and four chickens. A couple of the small joys I enjoy in life are natural crystals (some of which can be found in my therapy room) and colorful pens. I feel most at peace near the water — especially the ocean with its turquoise blue waters and waves, though I also love Minnesota lakes; my favorites are Spectacle Lake and Forest Lake. I often joke that I’m “part Moana,” always drawn to the calm, connection, and healing that water brings. 🌊
Thank you for taking the time to read a little about me and the heart behind Serenity Circle Counseling. I’m truly grateful you’re here.
