Last Friday night’s Open Studio felt especially grounding ✨

As we worked on mandalas together, themes of balance, vibrancy, mindfulness, and connection to self naturally showed up in the room. Some people worked quietly, some chatted and laughed, some followed a plan and others let the colors lead them. Every piece felt centered in its own way. 🌀🎨

I’m always reminded how meaningful it is to have spaces where people can simply slow down, create, and reconnect with themselves and community for a little while.

Our collaborative community collage is finished after our last political grief group!

Each person built and contributed to each piece, with one letter being finished later by some of our younger community members. The finished pieces speak for themselves, the importance of holding space for each other, listening, and creating together.

Come to our next political grief group on Thursday, May 14th, 7-8:30 pm to process through art and hold space for each other during these emotionally tense times in the world!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a reminder to take a moment for ourselves when we're stressed. Our natural threat response can often lead to fight (self-criticism), flight (isolation), and freeze (rumination). But self-compassion offers a powerful antidote.

By practicing kindness, mindfulness, and connecting with our shared humanity, we downregulate the threat system and activate the care system (the tend and befriend response), reducing stress and fostering resilience.

Research shows that this shift into self-compassion can lower cortisol levels and increase heart rate variability, making us less defensive, calmer, and more balanced.

This month, let’s prioritize mental well-being and show ourselves the kindness we need. Take a pause, place your hand on your heart, and remind yourself that you are worthy of care and compassion.
