Staying current matters.

When speech therapists keep up with the latest research, it helps us better support your child in ways that truly make sense for them.

This includes understanding that children learn language in different ways (Gestalt Language Learning vs Analytical Language Learning), the importance of using strong and flexible AAC systems for kids who need them, and setting goals that respect each child’s unique way of thinking and communicating.

The end goal is always meaningful, confident communication.

Play isn’t just fun—it’s powerful.

In speech therapy, play creates natural opportunities to build language, improve communication, and build confidence.

Remember, play looks different for every child—if it’s fun and motivating to them, it *is* play.

Friendly reminder 💛
Kids don’t have to “master PECS” or demonstrate ANY prerequisite skills before getting a robust AAC system.

PECS can be a helpful tool for learning to request, but communication is about *so much more* than asking for things. Kids have thoughts, feelings, opinions, and jokes to share—and they deserve words for all of it from the start.

We don’t make speaking kids prove they’re “ready” for language. AAC users shouldn’t have to either.

Robust AAC gives kids access to real language so they can:
✨ share ideas
✨ connect with others
✨ express feelings
✨ grow their communication over time

AAC isn’t a reward and it’s not something to earn. It’s simply a way to communicate—and everyone deserves that.

Curious about AAC or wondering what might be a good fit for your child? 📞
Schedule a **free phone consult with Speech in Motion** to talk through your questions and see how we can help.

Early access to rich AAC supports confidence, connection, and joy in communication. 💙

Not all language develops one word at a time — and that’s okay 💛

Gestalt Language Learning is a natural way many children, especially autistic children, learn to communicate by using meaningful chunks of language. Echolalia isn’t something to stop — it’s something to understand and support.

At Speech in Motion, we honor each child’s unique communication pathway and provide neurodiversity-affirming speech therapy tailored to Gestalt Language Learners.
