Dental Insurance: Stuck in the Past, Failing Today’s Needs
Did you know that most dental insurance plans haven’t significantly changed since the 1960s? Back then, annual coverage limits were around $1,000–$1,500 — and shockingly, many still are today. Meanwhile, the cost of running a modern dental office has dramatically increased.
Today’s dentistry uses advanced diagnostics, digital imaging, laser-assisted treatments, and biocompatible materials — all designed to improve care and comfort. But most of these aren’t covered by outdated insurance models, leaving both patients and providers at a disadvantage.
This broken system prevents patients from receiving the high-quality, technology-supported treatment they deserve and puts the future of our profession at risk.
This issue must become a top priority for dental societies at every level — local, state, and national. We must advocate for reform that reflects the true cost of modern care and protects the integrity of our profession.
It’s time to speak up. Patients deserve more. Dentists deserve better.
