Since returning from John F. Barnes' Fascial Cranium | Myofascial Release® Seminar last week, I have been amazed by how easily I've been able to breathe all week.

I feel like I'm wearing a super-sized Breathe Right strip! 😁😁😁

I didn't even realize how bound down my face was until it was released. I imagine many of you would feel that way, too.

These techniques create a powerful ripple effect on the entire fascial system.

We reviewed techniques helpful for alleviating:

allergy symptoms,
headaches & migraines,
facial pain,
occipital neuralgia,
Bell's palsy,
bite issues,
breathing difficulty,
sleep apnea,
sinus infections
snoring,
stuttering,
swallowing difficulty
TMJ dysfunction,
long-term Covid
and more!

Suppose you are one of those people who are "mostly fine" but suffer from one of the abovementioned complaints. In that case, I invite you to have a conversation about how John Barnes' Approach to Myofascial Release® can help you or someone you love.

Email questions and inquiries to Julie Leigh OTR|L 📨  julie@mountainsidemfr.com.

I look forward to hearing from you!

A patient mentioned reading this a few months ago. My interest was piqued because I had previously seen a short clip of Mel's mantra on YouTube.

I picked this book up yesterday and haven't been able to put it down.

Immediately, what came to mind was how our emotional holding patterns create a source of fascial restriction in our bodies. (Physical trauma manifests differently, though the emotional holding patterns can not be ignored.

For most of us, it's multifactorial and compounded trauma that creates functional limitations. Each person (and case) is unique.

This book overlaps with John Barnes' Approach to Myofascial Release, as it embraces the emotional component of MFR. If you are struggling with stress & anxiety or other emotional health disruptions, I can not recommend this book enough.

Our favorite wildlife friends stopped by to say hello this weekend and help themselves to our potted plants. 😋

Hello, friends!

Please pardon my abrupt pause from social media - we moved!

(As you can imagine, it's been busy behind the scenes.)

We have a permanent, new location in Tanque Verde that delivers boastful views of the Santa Catalina & Rincon Mountain ranges directly from the treatment room.

The wildlife adds a therapeutic dimension that you must experience for yourself! An adolescent bobcat made an appearance today. 🐾

I am accepting new patients; however, all sessions are filling into the new location. (At this time, home visits will be triaged and reserved for post-op emergencies and hospice care treatment.)

Please don't hesitate to reach out to me with questions or to schedule your appointment.

Hello, Friends ~ Happy Friday!

I returned from Sedona earlier this week, where I received a refresher on John Barnes' Myofascial Release cervical and thoracic techniques.

I'm feeling reenergized and have been riding that high all week!

I received rejuvenating treatments- in class and at John Barnes' MFR treatment center in Sedona - Therapy On The Rocks (TOR). After class, I followed my heart's desire to all my favorite places and activities. It was pure bliss.

The flow has continued throughout the week. 💫

Exciting things are happening this spring ~
I can't wait to share more!

Unsure whether you need work on your core or pelvic floor?

Grab a partially squishy or partially deflated ball and place it directly between your SIT bones. Ease down into sitting.

Slowly pull your spine upright while sitting on the ball. What do you notice?

Try slowly raising both arms. Then lower.

Slouch. Slowly sit up.

What did you feel?

How about shifting your weight into every hour of the clock- until you hit the tender "ooh" spots.

Wait & hang out there. Breathe & soften. 5-7 minutes or more.

You're worth it. I promise.

🙍 Got cramps?

These small therapy balls can be your new best friend.

While standing or lying down, scroll the ball over your abdomen. Identify where you feel tension, then choose two spots to focus on and spend a little quality time there.

Can you set aside ten minutes? That’s just five minutes for each spot — you may not need to reach for the Tylenol just yet.

If the pain is severe, consider soaking in a warm bath with magnesium flakes or using a heating pad first. 🛀 Then, try using the small ball.

Find two or more spots, take a moment to breathe, and let the tension melt away. Hold for the length of two songs.🎶🎵

Being a woman requires patience, persistence, and a lot of extra care, but we're worth it! ❤️‍🔥

Whenever I'm out walking or hiking on the weekend, I pick up cactus remnants orphaned by the javelina and bring them home for rehab.  (Once they root, I plant them outside to be enjoyed properly. ;)

I've been waiting for a purple prickly pear to materialize on my path.

Yesterday, the most perfect specimen appeared, and I filled my very last pot with it. I love the vibrant purple!

Doesn't the purple p-o-p?!

MFR FAQs:
Q: Can you use more than one ball? - or use two at once?

A: Absolutely!

I can think of 200 ways you can use two or more balls. 😉

Sometimes, more is better when you have multiple spots that are "talking," and you only have 10-15 minutes.

Here's one of my favorites, for example |💁
I have one ball in my low to mid-back and the other supporting my shoulder - nudging the tightness in my upper trap. I can feel the connection from my leg, hip, back, shoulder, and into my neck on the opposite side. The longer I wait, the more connections I begin to notice.

Mix & match the pinky ball, 4" therapy ball, or a tennis ball. Use whatever you have handy. (It's always nice to have density options.)

Try it tonight as you wind down before bed.

Can you feel the space between the two balls?

💬 {Imagine that you can}

🌬️ Breathe into it

🧖 Exhale

✨ Soften.

🎶 Wait through 2 songs

🔁 Repeat as needed

Then, the cat enters the scene. 😂

Myofascial release is a two-way street; the energy flows both ways. Naturally, animals are sensitive to this energy and will curiously approach MFR treatments.
