This year marks 30 incredible years of Kendal at Ithaca—and we’re especially proud to celebrate three remarkable team members who have been with us since the very beginning: Kevin, Maria, and Kelley!

Every year you’ve spent here has made a difference in the lives of our residents, your coworkers, and the heart of our community. Whether you’re just completing your first year or have been here since our doors opened, your commitment, care, and teamwork are what make Kendal such a special place to live and work.

Meet Sailor, a fluffy new resident at Kendal at Ithaca. Sailor is a ten-year-old Collie who loves his new home. He brought his friends, Jane and Mel, who say that Sailor "defines what it means to be low-energy." His favorite part of the day is lounging on the couch and looking out the window. While he hasn't visited the dog park yet, it's on his list of places to explore, but first, he is looking forward to napping on the porch when the weather cools down.

This week, Kendal at Ithaca is proud to participate in OSHA’s Safe + Sound Week! This year’s theme — Emergency Preparedness is Our Superpower — reminds us that being ready for anything keeps our community safe.

Maureen, Chair of our Safety & Risk Committees, kicked things off with a lively game of Emergency Operations Preparedness Jeopardy! Staff tested their knowledge in categories like Fire Safety, Missing Resident, Hazardous Materials, and more.

Every answer (and a few friendly rivalries) brought us one step closer to being everyday safety superheroes.

Finance, Falls, and Fun in Ithaca, NY

This week at Kendal at Ithaca, we welcomed Kendal affiliates to the annual Finance Gathering. The time was used to connect, collaborate, and exchange best practices. Representatives from Kendal Corporation attended the sessions, presented, and joined in the fun.

The weather cooperated, and in between sessions, attendees enjoyed the scenic beauty that makes Ithaca so special!

Laurie Mante, CEO of Kendal at Ithaca, has a little-known habit: she “collects” cats. If you know Laurie, you know she has a heart of gold, so it will be no surprise that she provides housing, medical care, food, and love to many feral cats. This little one, named Fred, is a special-needs kitty that is fluffy and sweet. Fred is just eight weeks old and is currently being cared for by Laurie. Eventually, he will need a new home, but in the meantime, Fred is lucky to have found Laurie (and so are we).

Kendal at Ithaca residents, staff, and family members hit the stands in June for an afternoon of baseball fun with the Syracuse Mets vs. the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp! 🎉 A little rain couldn’t dampen our team spirit—and to top it off, the Mets brought home the win! 🙌

With nearly 90 attendees, including many employees and their families, this outing was a true celebration of community. 💙

A huge thank-you to the Moraff Fund for helping make events like these possible—creating meaningful opportunities for connection between staff and residents is what makes Kendal truly special. 🧢🌭🎶

CNN Travel recently named Ithaca as America's best town to visit! This is old news to Kendal at Ithaca residents, many of whom stayed after visiting or attending college, and great news to anyone considering Ithaca as a place to retire.

CNN Travel ranked "Ithaca is No. 1 on the list thanks to its easy access to nature, vibrant college-town culture and homegrown flavors."

Jam-packed with waterfalls tumbling through dramatic gorges, the vibrant college town of Ithaca in New York’s Finger Lakes region also has the cultural landscape of a much larger destination.

Last week was Employee Appreciation Week, a wonderful time to celebrate the magic of Kendal while recognizing our everyday heroes.

The week featured a variety of activities, including a paint-and-sip event, a barbecue, a Syracuse Mets baseball game, a funny parade, a scavenger hunt, a caricature artist, and employee massages. The enthusiasm and involvement of residents made the week even more special. The action-packed week concluded with an Alzheimer's walk on campus, followed by an ice cream truck and live music.

A great big thank you to KAI, residents, and all staff who made the week magical through their participation and planning.

Employee Appreciation Week kicked off with a Superpower Parade!

Departments showed off their creativity by dressing up as their unique "superpowers," and both residents and staff had a blast creating colorful floats and costumes. The parade wound through the Health Center, creating a buzz of excitement. Congratulations to the Dining team for taking home the top prize!
