The Cornell Tradition Fellowship

The Cornell Tradition Fellowship "I have always been in favour of combining labour and study." -Ezra Cornell, 1846

Representing just 4% of the Cornell undergraduate population, The Cornell Tradition Fellowshipis a contemporary expression of the founder's vision. The program awards approximately 500 fellowships each year to students who demonstrate significant work experience, campus and/or community service, and academic achievement. Through The Cornell Tradition, students make meaningful contributions to campus life that will enhance their own education and those of generations to come. At the same time, these students reduce their level of indebtedness incurred in obtaining a Cornell degree. True to the founder's ideals, the Tradition supports the development of fellows into well-rounded, productive members of society who will serve as the role models and leaders of tomorrow.

Splash! at Cornell is looking for volunteers! We are an education organization that allows undergraduates to teach grades 7-12 once a semester here on campus in Warren and Mann Hall. Free food and a t-shirt are included in this opportunity!

The volunteer’s responsibilities differ based on where they are needed. Overall, they help the admin team execute the tiny details like program setup, registration, hallway patrol, lunch setup, serving lunch, lunch clean-up, program breakdown, etc. The event is on November 22th, 2025 from 7:00AM- 6:00PM

Volunteers can sign up for as many hours as they desire (up to 11) during the event through the following link: https://cornell.learningu.org/volunteer.html. Your support would be greatly appreciated!

Think fast! Could you pose with a Greek statue or track down Feeney Way in record time?

That’s exactly what the first-year and transfer fellows of The Cornell Tradition were challenged to do during a campus-wide scavenger hunt in mid-September!

Working in small teams, fellows raced against the clock to complete creative tasks, uncover hidden campus gems, and learn cool facts about Cornell’s history while boosting their teamwork skills.

From strategy and collaboration to campus navigation and Cornell trivia, it was the perfect mix of fun, teamwork, and discovering what makes Cornell unique!

Join us for some fruitful conversation. Cornell Tradition alum Griffin Erich has helped cultivate community at Applefest and beyond!

Griffin is a second-year PhD student in Horticulture at Cornell University, studying the biology of apple fruit and leaf cuticles at the physiological, cellular, and biochemical levels.

As a Cornell Tradition Fellow, he served on the Student Advisory Committee for 2.5 years, helping organize community events like Applefest and the Chili Cook-Off. He has also worked as a research assistant in SIPS and a visitor services intern at the Johnson Museum of Art, and values the lasting connections built through his fellowship experience.

This fall, the Cornell Tradition is partnering with GlamourGals, founded by Cornell Tradition alum Rachel Doyle, to support their "My Dear Friend" campaign!
GlamourGals (glamourgals.org) connects teen and college-aged volunteers with seniors to reduce isolation in elderly communities while building leadership skills in young people.
Members of the Student Advisory Committee (SAC) have set a goal to create and deliver 1,000 cards to local senior homes in the Ithaca area.
The SAC recently kicked off the first of several card-making events, and fellows had an amazing time crafting meaningful, uplifting messages that are sure to brighten someone’s day!
