During several conversations with between a family member and artist BJ, it was discovered that a great-granddaughter would like to have a summer art class here! Resident and artist BJ, who keeps a studio here at Brookdale Ithaca, offered with much enthusiasm to spend some time with her over summer break to share some of her “secrets“ and to give her tips when sketching and preparing to paint. BJ spent time with Hailey recently on three separate occasions in her studio at Brookdale Ithaca. Together they discussed art, BJ’s background, how she got interested in drawing, shared interests, laughed, and enjoyed their time together. Upon completion of the third segment of their time together, they parted way,s and BJ gave Hailey some homework to do and wants her to report back to her if she has questions or wants to learn another secret to painting.

What an opportunity this was for BJ and Hailey — to share BJ’s love and knowledge of painting with a young girl who has a desire to learn more from one of the finest!

Big thanks to Hallie, daughter of current resident Margaret. Margaret is a registered dietitian and expert cook. Her daughter came in to help us make her famous bread pudding. We had so much fun ripping the bread apart! The pudding turned out great and brought back many memories of family recipes.
