Residents took a short trip to a local dairy farm last week. We all enjoyed seeing and petting the newborn calves. Owner Jenny Baker also gave us a tour of the “milking parlor.” The farm sits high on the hill so as an added bonus, we were able to take in the distant vistas of fall foliage in full bloom!

This month, we are making seasonal bookmarks for the local libraries to help encourage their use and preserve the pages in the books. Joby Easley, the daughter of resident Eileen, is a retired teacher of several subjects and grade levels and has been volunteering at The Ohio History Connection for eleven years. She enjoys giving first-person presentations about a variety of historical topics and people at the History Center and other sites.

She came to share the presentation: Whose Bright Idea Was It, Anyway?

By the end of that century, three brilliant inventors battled to prove that they, and they alone, had the superior technology to supply power to the new, longer-lasting and affordable lightbulb. Step back in time to 1925 as Katherine Johnson, a friend of Nikola Tesla, talks about the events that led up to the invention of electric lighting.
