N.Y. Insurance Law § 3216, § 3221 and § 4303 require specified policies and contracts that provide coverage for hospital or surgical coverage to cover the screening, diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorder. The law also requires every policy that provides physician services, medical, major medical or similar comprehensive-type coverage to provide coverage for the screening, diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorder. The law prohibits any limitations on visits that are solely applied to the treatment of autism spectrum disorder. Treatment of autism spectrum disorder is defined to include behavioral health treatments, psychiatric care, psychological care, medical care, therapeutic care and specified pharmacy care.

Hi! Anyone interested in working with us on a task force to address the mental health needs of all the students in our community, please send me a message and include your email address. I am looking for other people interested in addressing this issue in our district. We need to do better for our kids.

Details to follow. It’ll be multi pronged.

1- bullying: managing difficult behaviors
2- bullying: helping kids who are bullied
3- mental health: kids with mental health needs who are not bullies or being bullied. Just straight mental health.

Parents/Families, staff (all levels), students.

I will be in touch with people who are interested soon.

All ideas welcome at this time.

Dear Parents,

School has started and I want to ask you a favor, sit down with your child for 5 minutes and explain to them that being very tall, very short, chubby, skinny, curly, kinky, straight or red-haired, black, white or other shade of skin color and any characteristic in between, is not a joke to be made fun of.

That there is nothing wrong with wearing the same shoes every day. Explain to them that a used backpack carries the same dreams as a new one.

Please teach them not to exclude anyone for "being different" or not having the same possibilities as one.

Teach them to not tease and belittle others and what others love, just because they don't share the same love.

Explain to them that teasing hurts forever and that they go to school to LEARN, not to hurt others.

Teach them how to be KIND, loving, and independent.

Teach them to include the child standing/sitting/eating alone.

Prepare them to have hurtful things said and done to them without retaliation.

Let them know they are strong, brave, kind, caring, helpful, and capable.

Remind them that they matter and that their gifts will impact the world.

EDUCATION BEGINS AT HOME.
