Melanoma May is almost over, but sun safety never really ends!
A medical statistic that catches a lot of people by surprise is how easily UV damage adds up. Having just five or more sunburns in your lifetime actually doubles your risk of developing melanoma. It doesn't take a lifetime of zero sunscreen to cause real damage. Just five bad burns, and honestly, it only takes one severe, sunburn early on to set you up for melanoma later in life.
The good news is that keeping your skin safe is incredibly simple. Daily sunscreen matters even on cloudy days. Wearing a hat when you are outside and finding some shade when the sun is at its strongest makes a massive difference. Truly, the best skincare routine in the world always starts with sun protection. Everything else is just secondary maintenance.
Elizabeth Thompson encourages everyone to keep a close watch on their skin year-round. It helps to use the buddy system at home to check those tricky spots you can't reach, like your scalp or your back. If you don't have a buddy to help search those hidden areas, Elizabeth is always happy to be your buddy and take a look for you. It is always best to get any questionable spots checked the moment you notice them.
While the clinic offers skin evaluations all year long, Elizabeth is conducting full-body skin assessments for a flat $75 cash pay rate through the end of the month. Standard insurance is also gladly accepted, with rates varying by plan.
As summer arrives here in Northeast Mississippi, the team wants to encourage the community to stay safe and wear your sunscreen!
