Look at the beautiful jar full of goodness right there! The first picture is after five days of sprouting. I soak two tablespoons of organic alfalfa sprouting seeds in the jar for 6-8 hours. I then drain, rinse, drain, and turn upside down so the jar can fully drain. I then rinse and drain about three times a day until the jar is full of sprouts. The jar sits on my counter during the sprouting period. It takes about five days, and then gets stored in the fridge.

The only special equipment required are the sprouting seeds and a lid with fine holes in it for draining. You can also get a stand to keep the jar inverted, but I just balance it in a bowl.

The jar keeps well in the fridge for a week.

Alfalfa sprouts are high in fiber and nutrients. They can help balance hormones, assist in weight loss, lower cholesterol, improve digestion, prevent diabetes, and boost the immune system.

Stop eating premade boxed cereal! Most of them contain toxins that can cause illnesses, weight gain, and emotional health issues.

At my house we eat eggs with veggies mixed in, oatmeal that has been soaked to bring out the nutrients, fruit, leftovers like homemade soup, homemade stir fry with leftover quinoa and veggies and topped with an egg, homemade sourdough pancakes, smoothies, grilled cheese sandwiches, salads and on and on.

You don't have to eat what you were told is breakfast food. Any food is breakfast food if it's eaten for breakfast.

When the sun hits us, it reacts with a type of cholesterol in our skin to become D3. It then gets converted within the liver. To become fully active, there is a further conversion in the kidneys. Our body will use this hormone, calcitriol, to pull calcium from our intestines when it needs to build bone density. There are vitamin D receptors in the heart, blood vessels, muscles, and endocrine system as well as the intestines. Let's not forget that we also need calcium for muscle contraction and for firing nerves

I use the Bristol Stool Chart with my clients to help with understanding their bowel function. The chart I send my clients isn't as interesting as this one. I might need to change that! 🙂 Anyway, #3 and #4 are normal. And having a normal bowel movement every day (preferably the same amount of movements as the number of meals you eat) is important. Many health issues can arise from improper elimination.

March is National Sleep Awareness Month, so take this last day before the new month to read below and learn more about sleep.

Sleep is one of our Health Foundations. It may seem like a waste to some people, but sleep is extremely important for a healthy body. If you receive less than 7 hours of sleep each night, you are considered sleep deprived. Or, no matter how much sleep you get, if it is interrupted and you don't get to all the stages of sleep properly, you are sleep deprived.

Sleep deprivation can cause neurological issues, lapses in attention, slowed memory, depressed mood, and reduced cognitive output. Your cells stop functioning. Your mitochondria stop producing, which means your cells will be starved of energy and will affect things like your heart and nervous system. Your liver will stop detoxing. Have you ever woke up feeling puffy and groggy? That could be from a toxin buildup in your body due to not sleeping well or not getting enough sleep and your body didn't do its routine detox through the night.

Prothrombin helps in the blood clotting process. It is continually formed in the liver. Prothrombin is dependent on vitamin K, which is formed by a type of bacteria in the intestines. So, a healthy liver and healthy gut bacteria make for healthy blood clotting when we are injured.
