Spending time outside is very important for our health and wellness.
When soaking up sunshine, we encourage the body to create the hormone, vitamin D. This important nutrient can help with increasing bone strength, improving immune function, and lifting up your mood. Sunshine can also help improve serotonin levels, which can help improve your mood. Being out in the sun helps regulate melatonin levels for improved sleep.
When in the forest, we breathe in phytoncydes. This is a chemical that plants give off to protect themselves from insects. Phytoncydes have antibacterial and antifungal qualities. Breathing in this chemical can help improve the immune system.
And finally, when we spend time outside barefoot we absorb the Earth's nourishing energy. Earthing/grounding can help with improving inflammation in the body. It can help with cardiovascular issues, blood sugar levels, issues with autoimmunity, depression, issues with dementia, cancer, and autism. Earthing can help to extinguish the silent flames of inflammation.
None of the above activities are standalone cures, but they all are ways to help with healing the body in a holistic approach. You may be working with a medical doctor or going fully natural with the assistance of a holistic practitioner - either way, spending time outside should be a part of your healing process.
