Drs. Beth King and Chris Spankovich presented at the American Academy of Audiology conference in San Antonio, Texas last week.

Dr. King presented at the Cochlear Implant Grand Rounds.

Dr. Spankovich presented on “Oto-Toxic Relationships” and “Development of Canine In-Ear Hearing Protection Devices for the Department of Defense”.

Our audiologists and audiology students had the opportunity to participate in Healthy Hearing screenings for the MS Special Olympics Spring Games this past weekend in Starkville, MS. They enjoyed meeting the athletes and testing their hearing!

Our audiologists got the opportunity to participate in UMMC’s Discovery Day today. High school students from around Mississippi were able to learn about the field of Audiology and how to protect their hearing!

Today is World Hearing Day. The theme for this year is “From Communities to Classrooms: Hearing care for every child” with the goal of raising awareness about preventable hearing loss and promoting ear and hearing care.

Hearing loss affects millions of children worldwide, however it commonly goes undetected. Untreated hearing loss can impact speech and language development, affecting learning and social interactions. See below for signs your child may not be hearing well.

Although not all hearing loss can be prevented, hearing loss from loud sounds (noise induced hearing loss) can. You can protect your ears around loud sounds by wearing ear protection, turning down the volume, or taking listening breaks by moving away from the sound.

If you have concerns about your child’s hearing, contact us. Early intervention and care are important to prevent long-term impacts on development.
