John ‘Sonny’ Novak. November 6, 1936 – August 31, 2025
John “Sonny” Novak passed away peacefully on August 31, 2025, in Midwest City, Oklahoma, surrounded by the love of his family.
He is deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Betty Novak; daughters Lisa Carley and Krista Novak; sons Stephen Novak and Johnny Novak; and brother Tommy Novak. His legacy continues through his grandchildren—Ryan Novak, Andrew Ketner, Wesley Martinez, Reagan Novak, and Rylee Novak—and great-grandchildren Tyrany Novak, Kayson Novak, Parker Novak, Mia Ketner, Jaxon Martinez, Carter Martinez and Damari Novak, all of whom cherish the many memories shared with him.
Born in East St. Louis to immigrant parents John Novak and Rose Risavey, who came to the United States from Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia, Sonny grew up with a strong work ethic and deep family values. He dedicated much of his professional life to General Motors and, together with Betty, embraced the culture of the Choctaw Nation—infusing their home with Native American traditions and pride.
Sonny loved the open road, often found riding his Harley with classic country music—Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings—playing in the background. He was a lifelong fan of western films, especially those starring John Wayne and Clint Eastwood, and his adventurous soul led him to the jazz-filled streets of New Orleans and out West to make unforgettable memories with his grandchildren.
He was a loving husband, a devoted father and grandfather, a loyal brother, and a steadfast friend—known for his warmth, wisdom, and unwavering dependability. Sonny touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and family.
He now rides on in spirit—another angel in heaven as of August 31, 2025.
