A burn injury affects one of the most important organs of the body: the outer layer of skin. Every day, your skin acts as a barrier, protecting your body from harmful external elements, regulating your body’s temperature and other important functions. On National Skin Barrier Day, think about ways you can take care of your skin: avoid irritants and moisturize on a regular basis. And, of course, one of the most important things you can do is avoid getting burned! That’s why MBHRC (along with our buddy, Bob) posts helpful burn prevention tips here all the time!

It’s time to tell ci******es (and vapes) to butt out of your life! National No Smoking Day is also the perfect time to remind smokers that stopping smoking also reduces fire and burn risks around their homes. No smoking means no errant ashes, no improperly disposed-of butts and no accidental contact with stray ci******es. It’s estimated there are more than 8 million deaths from smoking and 15,000 fires annually from ci******es each year. It’s time to stop.

It’s time to spring forward! Set your clocks forward one hour tonight as we kick off Daylight Savings time. More importantly, it’s also time to check the batteries in your home’s smoke detectors. (And, if it has been more than 10 years, you need to replace the whole smoke detector!) Don’t let the chirps stop your alerts!

It is convenient. It’s easy. It’s frozen. On National Frozen Food Day, we celebrate those cold concoctions that become savory sustenance with a little heat. Always follow the instructions on the container or meal to make sure the food is safely cooked. Allow food to cool after cooking because items heated in a microwave can become extra hot, causing burns to the mouth, throat and skin.

Swallowing a sword can be dangerous. But when it comes to smoke, chemicals, or hot gases — there’s no safe trick. You can’t train your lungs to handle them. The real danger isn’t always the flame… it’s what you breathe in. Inhalation injuries can happen fast and silently during a fire, and they are one of the leading causes of fire-related deaths. Take THE steps to stay safe: Test your smoke alarm, Have an escape plan, Escape.
