During the season of giving, our Women in EM group did just that! Thanks to co-chairs Dr. Megan McLin & Dr. Lauren Hopper for putting together the WEM donation drive, where they collected hygiene products to donate to local women’s shelters here in Jackson. It was definitely a success! 👏

We are also a Comprehensive Stroke Center, a Burn Center, are home to Mississippi MedCom, MS Poison Control, the OBGYN ED, and more!

Shift Chronicles: the caffeine, mid-shift workout, & smiles edition 🥤🏋️🤪

Fall procedure lab dump! 💉🩺

We do quarterly procedure labs, in lieu of our Thursday morning didactics. The 2 Fall labs are now complete!
Between the two, we covered:

- Pericardiocentesis
- Transvenous pacing
- Transcutaneous pacing/defibrillation/synchronized cardioversion (and Dual Sequence Defib - iykyk)
- Lateral canthotomy
- Minnesota Tube placement
- Arthrocentesis

Peep Patrick - our behind the scenes Sim Lab Hero who makes this all happen! We wouldn’t have these opportunities without him!

We mostly focus on “halo” procedures during these labs, that way we can be prepared when the time comes. And trust us - the time comes here at UMMC!

🌟 Intern Spotlight 🌟

Meet Graham!

He’s from Madison, MS, and went to Louisiana Tech for undergrad before heading to UMMC for both his master’s and medical school. When he’s not in the hospital, he loves golfing, playing slow-pitch softball, traveling, and hanging out with friends and family. He’s excited about building friendships and making memories during residency.

Last week’s conference looked a little different… it was our Fall Business Meeting/Retreat!

We spent the morning covering some departmental business over breakfast, then spent the rest of the morning & afternoon eating BBQ, playing beach volleyball, and taking a few laps on Dr. Sandifer’s boat 🚤 🏐 🍗

Already looking forward to doing it all again in the spring!

WEM Pool Day yesterday! 🏊‍♀️🍕
We enjoyed the weekday afternoon by the pool - perks of being ER docs! Our Women in EM group organizes a few fun events throughout the year. Can’t wait for the next!
