Honor a trailblazer this Giving Tuesday by making a gift in support of the Claude D. Brunson, MD Anesthesiology Fund. When support reaches $1 million, the fund will become The Claude D. Brunson, MD Chair in Anesthesiology, making this the first endowed chair position for the Department of Anesthesiology.

At Children’s of Mississippi, the Tooth Fairy is a member of the care team. 🥰

Dr. Sara Robertson, associate professor of anesthesiology, started the program, which includes a certificate and case for children who are getting teeth extracted or who have loose teeth before surgery.

“We ask in our preoperative assessment if patients usually between the ages of 5 to 12 if they currently have a loose tooth,” she said. “We ask them this because if a loose tooth gets knocked out when we intubate, then it can be an aspiration risk. If they do have a loose tooth, we ask if they want us to pull it under anesthesia. Parents love this option as it reduces anxiety about teeth being pulled while awake at home. This also helps us avoid that aspiration risk.”

Parents receive their children’s Tooth Fairy surprises in the recovery area to give to their children that night. ❤️
